Though it is still a little early yet , I was pondering how one could make a sequel to smac. I think it would be cool to have some sort of catastrophe occur on alpha centauri, and have the spacesketeers jumping back into a ship to earth. Then the game could have the beloved green grass and mountains of civII earth, and the crazy new techs of smac. Or, perhaps humans didn't die out afterall, and the centaurians must fight for their earthly land back. I think that might make for an interesting game, with mutant humans or the like. Any ideas out there?

I don't see how going back to Earth adds anything to the gameplay.
If you want green grass, persuade someone to design new tiles for Planet.

Its just the idea of earth, and native lifeforms, and i think battling mutant humans would be quite fun.

I think we need Civilization of Alpha Centauri in which you play civ3 immediately followed by a game of SMAC. This would span 4000BC to 2500AD and include all of the techs from both games.

that would be cool, a combined game. Start on earth, then leave for alpha centauri. Then perhaps you could play on both planets, though this may get a little tedious.

FPS shooter. You're a transcendi on the planet Strogg and you've just caused a "cascade resonance failure". With your trusty Firestaff you run around building Recyclers and other fortifications to hold off the evil Zerg led by Manny Calavera. Who is behind the evil Zerg? Well the hideously evil Lara Croft, self-styled Queen of Boobs, possessed by Diablo himself. The endgame has you pitted against a giant John Carmack spouting truisms like "The iMac is a viable gaming platform" If you win you get to fly off in the new Falcon 5.0 -- or not. I'd tell you more but Bill Gates has threatened to kill me for revealing all this information about how he's gonna take over the world.
I need more sleep.
