I found a use for Drop Supply Crawlers in my current game. One of my best mineral bases was a captured Believer base a little removed from my home territory. I had mag tubes linking my production centres--except for this one, which would have required running a mag tube line through foreign territory. Not a good idea giving a potential enemy access to your internal transportation network! :-) However, I noticed that the base was in drop range from the eastern terminus of the network. So... Drop Supply Crawlers, dumped on the terminus. One turn later, the crawler is helping to build a project on the other side of the continent. Cool. :-)I imagine that drop crawlers could be useful when building solar collector or borehole farms: Build the improvement, then drop the crawler right onto it. No need for access roads, and no annoying wait for the crawler to get there. Yes, they'll take a little damage, but even that stops being a problem if you have the Nano Factory. |

I read that someone designed a cruiser submarine probe ship. That one sound VERY evil! |

I will regularly use Armoured Transformers (err... Trance Formers) and Chopper Colony Pods and in my current game I'm working towards Trained Submarine Destroyer Probe Teams ... along with the Maritime Control Centre and the Cyborg Factory these things are Elite from the time they hit the water ... screamin' demons |

I made a small submarine transport. Foil size, class 1 armor, transport module and deep pressure hull ability. Cheap and good to sneak near an enemy coast undetected and drop off a few military units. |

I agree ... Gravship formers rock. Also: Upgrading your formers with antigrav units later in the game.Another unit I've been using in my last game: Cruiser probe teams. I still wonder how they silently sneak that cruiser into the enemy harbor. |

One odd thing about gravship formers - if you automate them, they will decide that they are a "land" unit or a "sea" unit, and not cross the boundary. It makes sense from an algorithmic sense, but it surprised me when I first saw it.One of my standard late-game techniques is a submarine repair transport destroyer, with a full crew of 8 (or 16) marines (generally expensive ones with maxed out attack and defense). With or without a submarine battleship to bombard first, this is a great way to take a coastal city. I've also tried cloaked drop units, but apparently the cloaking device doesn't hide the unit from observation inside city radii (though it does let you ignore ZOCs). I almost never build cloaked units any more because of that. |

Submarine Aircraft carriers! These units ROCK! Also, armored rover APC's for dropping off offensive infantry are very useful. |

I like the Drop Shard Behemoth that looks like a little doggie. I also like the Sub Tachyon Cruiser with the Fusion Reactor, that look like a Gondola. |

The needlejet transport that i was going to use to move artifacts never worked, somehow. |

A note to any budding SMAC engineers:You cannot make drop transports. I tried making a drop APC (armored rover w/cargo bay) and attempted to drop the rover into enemy territory with a cargo of infantry. Well, the rover dropped in okay... minus the infantry. Drop cargo units leave their cargo behind when they drop; I'm not sure if this is a bug or intentional, but it's kind of a letdown. Oh well. |

My favorite is a Police AAA Rover Probe Team with the best Armor and Special Abilities--2x Police and AAA vs Air? (the 2x against Air units) I use these as city garrisons. Two if possible. I call this unit Batman, works well if you missed the Hunter-Seeker Algorthim Project and/or have a horde of Units outside your Doorside you want to convert.

Oh I forgot a really good unit I use. A former with the best armor and Hypnotic Trance (50% defense vs. Psi) Guess what the computer called it? Trance Formers ::Cackles:: Was sick and tired of mindworms or generic Faction units taking down my formers so I designed this one. BTW, if you didn't get the Pun--Trance Formers. . Transformers. |

Air Transports can carry 1 unit, so if Drop pods don't have enough range, build your own paradrop plain! Hmm, I haven't tried making it with carrier decks, i.e., an air refueler.I like Sub carriers, but shouldn't the aircraft be amphibious? Why oh why can't I build a U2 spy plane? Ah well. Artillery + Air Superiority: Doesn't act like Ack Ack as you would expect (which would go a long way to lessening the might of air units, it seems to me... , but if you catch a stack of air craft, you can really whale on them. Drop Pods + Amphibious: Doesn't actually let you drop on sea cities, but it's the thought that counts, right? Cloaking formers! Hmm, why is that land changing!? Cloaking Coptors can move after attacking. Recall that old tv show, Airwolf? Hmm. All I can recall at the moment, bya |
