The uk version of Alpha Centauri is sold in Denmark. I bought that and now I cannot upgrade to version 2.0. Why? What's the difference between the US and UK version? What's the POINT in a US and UK version? To spell colour two different ways? I can understand french, spanish and german versions.

Copy protection. EA and European retailers demand it. The US version doesn't have it.jkm firaxis games |

Arhh :-( Well, somehow I feel I can't blame them for wanting copy protection. But would it not be in the interest of EA America to have copy protection as well?-- MOCKBa |

You can thank the European Commision (EU) for having the UK version Mockba They are the ones that implemented this law, so be sure to vote NO the next time we get an election about anything EU related Have you seen the news? It is in stars, next week we collide with Mars. |

Australia has the US version ... get the patch - it works well, but make sure you haven't been playing with any of your txt files or they won't be patched. As for the copy protection - no I don't think it's worth it. People will crack it anyway, no matter what protection is on it (even requiring a "dongle" inserted in a serial port as some software used to). The only long-term effect of copy protection is to annoy the legitimate users (eg. I hear the European users need to have 1 CD per player for Multiplayer whereas the US version doesn't have that restriction). James |

3 Reasons for US & UK versions:1) Aformentioned copy protection (see above). 2) Langauge changes due to the US inability to spell words such as colour etc. (Sorry that was a cheap shot ). 3) Copyrights & Trade Marks can vary and sometimes games are released with different names to avoid copyright issues. Agreed, Esobus - I've never heard of any EU regulations regarding copy protection for games, heh.. Hmm, seems like we're from the same town, Esobus - small world Regards, Calanor

I don't think they have changed the spelling - on the last screen humor is there not humour |

So is the UK one the same for all of Europe? If a friend of mine buys it in Germany is there an English option for the game or does he have to buy it in the UK (or Denmark) for it to have English language support |

I should think so, creeb. I bought mine in Denmark and it has no option for languages, just english (or american 8-) ). Get it from UK. They have lower VAT. In Denmark it is approximately 38 DM-- MOCKBa |
