I have the uk version : ( I notice that Firaxis has not bothered, yet, to properly answer the question about the uk patch....please even a rough estimate would be appreciated. The game doesn't always load for me, it sits there & thinks a bit & then nothing loads, it does load once in about every 10 times! If this patch doesn't come out soon (& have this problem fixed)I guess I'll just have to return it & buy Civ:CtP. Sorry but that is the way I feel now, I am fed up.

Well, the reason we've not given a date other than ASAP is because we don't know. I've learned time and time again that the game buying public in the end prefers no info to wrong info. What's the problem with the game? The patch is unlikely to solve a problem like yours, since most people aren't experiencing it. What I need to solve it is a good description of the problem, what you've tried already, and the system specs. Fill me in. jkm firaxis games |

Sorry about my tone in the last message, I was trying to get it to work for ages! my sys specs are: P200, 32MG ram, 4MG ViRGE graphics (certified DX6 drivers), Creative Labs Live! (latest drivers)& Creative Dvd Dxr2 (5X) also with latest driver & firmware. ...Okay, the game had been working for a day or so (I finished it to, brilliant!) & then when I tried clicking on the shortcut in start bar & dble clicking the terran.exe & using the autorun interface: all of these produced the same effect...the Hd is accessed for a short time followed by the CD & then the Hd again intermittedly & then nothing not even the firaxis logo, it doesn't even leave the desktop screen, & then nothing like I didn't even click anything (but I swear I did!)It seems to decide to run randomly, sometimes I click to run it 5 times & nothing & then I click it once another time & it runs. Thanks for your time Jeffrey, & again sorry for my belligerant tone before, it is frustrating! Murt |

No sweat. Try running the terran.exe file in the game's folder directly (default: c:\program files\firaxis games\sid meier's alpha centauri). If that doesn't work, try installing a typical setup and see what's what. You might want to get DX reinstalled as well. Check DXDiag.exe for info on what drivers may need updating. Good luck and keep in touch.jkm firaxis games |

The 'not starting' problem happens to me too (also UK version), though it always seems to start at the second time of asking (so it's no bug deal for me). Sometimes it claims the CD is not present and I have found that ejecting and re-inserting always seems to work - perhaps you could try this. |

This happens with many games that have CD-checks. Eidos is especially notorious for this. I bought the UK version, but now I'm using the US version some friends burned for me because of the CD-check and the patch. Apparently this is not Firaxis' fault but that of European distributors. But how do you boycott European distributors??? |

You could mail order directly from the States, there are loads of places where you can do this on the Internet. Personally I've had no problems with the UK version. |

I havn't had any problems either, but I'd also like to add my voice for a call for a European patch. What the hell did the distibutors do that made the game so different it takes weeks longer for a patch to be worked out??? It is extremely frustrating. |

Same problem has happened to me once. Have you tried 'restarting the computer' before loading SMAC?Hope it helps... |
