Just curious on the various approaches....Although Nerve Stapling is fun, the atrocity index doesn't appreciate repetitive uses..

Um, pull people off the land to entertain them? Build enough improvements to quell them? Play as the PKs?And if all else fails - Nerve Staple! |

Also if you social engineering choices permit police unit deploy military units (particularly those with the police special) in the city. You can also chance your police rating upwards to permit existing defenders to police the people. Also, you can increase the amount you are allocating to psych. Also you can build facilities that (1) reduce drones, (2) increase psych, or (3) add talents. |

Yeah, the band aid is an insta-doctor or empath. If you were already building a psych improvement, consider buying it (which you should have been, because you noticed the problem occuring, right?). If you weren't, after this production is done, and if you aren't in an emergency, build a colony pod/police unit/psych improvement.Under free market economies or large civs, strongly consider a 10% allocation to psych. |

I must agree with SnowFire, a 10% allocation to Psych is a very wise investment. The "Psych-improving" facilities actually push the bonus to Psych over 100%. (I'm up to 175%, with Hologram Theater 50%, Research Hospital 25%, Tree Farm 50%, Hybrid Forest 50%). But you can't get that bonus until you allocate something besides 0 to Psych. Once you drop 10% on Psych, you can actually "dope" problem colonies w/ energy brought in by supply crawlers or trawlers. I hear that building satellites works, too, but I haven't played that far yet. A Thermal Borehole brings in 7 (w/ 2+ Econ) all by itself, sending small colonies thus equipped into a "Golden Age" which helps growth. So a 0-nutrient borehole helps you grow? With a little Psych, you bet! |

If its a matter of one drone, build a colony pod, your population will decrease one and you get to build a new city. Other than that always go for the happiness secret projects, always build recreation commons and holo whatevers. For 25% more cost you can build units that act as better police, which can help if you have a positive police rating. |

I always set the psych allocation to 20% so I CAN have science and economy be the same to reduce inefficiency. (Or is a 10% difference actually too small to have an effect on efficiency? |

Yes, police are a very viable choice for an minerals/industry oriented faction, especially the Hive. 3 Police units = -6 drones if you have Police State. Using a little time (in minerals) can save you a lot of energy upkeep later on in terms of Holo Theatres, Rec Commons, etc. which can be very important for energy-poor factions. The building of many sentries also keeps you safe, of course. If you later get +1 Police from another source like Self-Aware Colony/Ascetic Virtues, that would raise Police to +3, doubling each unit's policing ability and making your drone reduction 3x2x2= -12 drones. Upgrading can get expensive but it will keep you safe and require no energy upkeep (and with Police State's high Support, no mineral upkeep either). Keep it in mind. I didn't think policing was useful since it went against my expected playing style, but I quickly changed my mind. Nerve stapling is a short term solution and I wouldn't use it unless you were desperate for some reason (under attack, etc.) NeonJesus drone talent |
