Over the months I have seen quite a few treads dealing with Faction music, colors, and other themes. We even had a thread about if the SMAC Forum were a movie: who would be cast as the posters, i.e. Brother Greg played by Mel Gibson.Correct me if I'm wrong, but I cannot recall if we ever looked at the possibilities for SMAC: The Movie. Who would we like to see cast in the roles of our favorite, and not so favorite, SMAC characters? Who would be the director, cinematography, music, choreography, etc? My choice for Sister Miriam: Sigourney Weaver or Robert Duval in drag. Captain John Garland: Charlton Heston or Patrick Stewart.

No, I would say Jenette Goldstein as Santiago. (She was Private Vasquez in "Aliens".)Lou Gosset Jr. as Morgan. Ben Kingsley as Pravin Lal. Mare Winningham as Miriam. |

I can't believe that no one is suggesting the person whom Morgan is obviously modeled on, and probably even named after -- Morgan Freeman.Ananda |

These aren't supposed to look like or even be teh same sex as the real characters. But I think they fit the role as defined by what i think the personalities shoudl be like.Yang: Jackie Chan. heh j/k Morgan: J.R. From Dallas Santiago: That guy with the huge facial scar (and missing an arm I think) from Starship Troopers Diedre: Alanis Morsette, heh she likes being naked anyways. Miriam: Charlton Heston (just look how he tries to push the NRA on us) :p Zakharovimitch: That professor from back to the future Lal: Rodney King, can't we all just get along? |

For Yang, I think Jet Li is a better candidate than Jackie Chan. He is the bad guy in Lethal Weapon 4. |

I'd say Jet Li is far too young to be Yang.Zakharov just has to be played by Stellan Skarrsgrd. He has a nice accent and looks exactly like that. |

The director has to be Tarantino!"I don't trade technology because society says I have to." (Reservoir MindBoils) 'Morgan smiles and begins taking off his boots. Santiago triumphantly casts hers off. He takes her hand, escorting her to the council floor. The two face each other for that brief moment before you begin to dance, than they both break into a devilish twist. Santiago's version of the twist is that of a sexy mindboil.' (Pulp Faction)
Diedre: "Don't get us wrong, we respect human life an all . . . but if I was Planet killer, which I'm not, but if I was, I'd be like Santiago." (Nature Bored Killers)
'Yang, with a devilish grin on his face, GRABS Miriam and sinks his teeth into Miriam's forearm. Miriam screams bloody murder as her friend begins to drain her of blood . . . Miriam takes one of the water balloons she's wearing and SMASHES it against Yang's head . . . The holy water melts half of Yang's face away. He lets go of Miriam, screaming, and drops the .45 on the floor . . . Miriam drops to the ground, picking up the gun. She brings it up to fire . . . A totally evil Yang, with only half a face, matches stares with the woman he once called his Pact Sister . . . She FIRES, sending a holy bullet into Yang's forehead, creating a hole from which fire shoots out. Yang's entire head bursts into flames, then explodes.' (From Trance 'til Transcendance)

Whoever suggested Morgan Freeman as Morgan is dead-on, although James Earl Jones would be a perfectly acceptable substitute.I think George Takei would make an excellent Yang. Thinking about Star Trek makes me realize that Brent Spiner (in his Dr. Soong get-up) would be a fine Zakharov. Continuing with the fine tradition of suggesting actors from Star Trek, Kate Mulgrew would seem to be a serviceable Miriam. Although potentially too young and glamorous for the part, I could see Jennifer Lopez as Santiago (alternate choice: Sigourney Weaver). I can't really think of anyone appropriate for either Deidre or Lal, though. Has Firaxis said who their inspirations for the character portraits were? I'm curious if any of the developers/artists had any of the people suggested in this thread in mind at the time. |

Dang it if I wasn't thinkin the same thing with the whole movie idea. Anyway, here are my choices:Deidre: Sigourney Weaver is a great look-alike, and if you could mix her with that lady from Touched by an Angel, that would be great. Morgan: Morgan Freeman all the way. Great actor. Miriam: Kate Mulgrew was a good choice, but she's lacking something, can't put my finger on it... Zakharov: Spiner in the Dr. Soong outfit would work. Lal: Yeah, Ben Kingsley. Santiago: ROSIE PEREZ! j/k RP: Oh my Gawwwd, I can't believe you touching me! Don't make me whip out my planet buster! Hmm, but seriously, the lady from Mask of Zorro would be okay. Yang: There has to be someone in the Kung-Fu Movie genre that I don't know about. Now here's another question: how does the movie end? Who wins (if anyone?) My ending goes like this: Lal, Diedre, and Zakharov ally (good guys) against Miriam, Santiago, and Yang (bad guys) all supplied by Morgan just like in Chain Reaction (playing both sides so to speak). In the end, the U.N. Alliance defeats the fanatical forces of fudge (Miriam, Santiago, and Yang) and Morgan still has his empire (he's the guy you hate to love, but don't love to hate?). Then Diedre communes with Planet, Lal sets up the government, and Zakharov... dies or something since he was the oldest anyway. Whadda ya think? |

Hey aren't we forgetting the most gorgeous girl of all time... Natalie Portman? She surely could tackle all the parts in the movies and would require no body double. I myself volunteer to be her personal assistant and technical consultant... hehe |

What if the Star Wars universe melded with the SMAC universe?Lal = R2-D2 (they have the same personality) Yang = Emperor Palpatine (manipulative maggots) Deidre = Yoda (both Forces of nature) Morgan = Lando Calrissian (capitalist opportunists) Santiago = Chewbacca (warriors of undetermined gender) Miriam = Princess Leia (opinionated pain in the butts) Garland = Han Solo (not good for much accept ridding around in starships) Zakharov = Darth Vader (he has the attitude and spare parts)

I like the Tarantino angle, but of course then, the spoof would have to come out a year later...Directed by Mel Brooks Blazing Centauri Starring Harvey Korman as Yang Madeline Kahn as Miriam Damon Wayans as Morgan Mel Brooks (he always stars in his own movies) as Zahkarov Bernadette Peters as Deidre Tim Conway as Lal and Rosanne as Santiago with Don Pardo as the voice of planet. And just like History of the World Part One had a trailer at the end for Part Two, this one could have trailers at the end for vaporware: Daikatana, Anachronox, Ex Deus... |

Hmmm... Yang and Miriam are strange bedfellows. Don't forget that all good religious people hate police states like Yang, and Yang is a strong atheist who really dislikes Miriam.Translation: They have opposing social agendas. Just look at script.txt for a few gems: "Have you no intellectual integrity whatsoever, $TITLE0 $NAME1? It pains me to see an educated person pointlessly cripple $<1:himself:herself::> with the pathetic fantasy of a creator and afterlife. Will you not put aside medieval mythology and join the rest of us in the third millenium?" "You are a wretched unbeliever, $TITLE0 $NAME1, and your sins cry out to God for punishment. In the Lord's name I now pronounce Vendetta upon you, that by destroying your abomination of a Police State I may redeem the souls of your followers while there is yet hope for their salvation!" |

My two cents:Lal: Ben Kingsley sound good. Miriam: Winona Ryder. Morgan: Denzel Washington. Santiago: Marisa Tomei (sp?) Yang: Either Sam Neil (Jurassic Park) or that English actor who played Soran in ST: Generations (and was in Clockwork Orange) - what is his name? Zakharov: Sean Connery Deidre: Get some English actress that nobody has ever heard of before who will no doubt win the Academy Award for her protrayal of Deirdre, but only because she is a Brit, and is really cute. Narrator/Voiceovers: James Earl Jones (who else?) |

Santiago-Linda Hamilton Yang-Gary Oldman Derdrie-Gillian Anderson Zakharov-Brent Spinner (more as he was in Independence Day) Miriam-Jody Foster Lal-Not sure, someone flaky and simpering. I keep thinking of that whimpering Skeksi from The Dark Chrystal (HMMmmmm?. Maybe Jeff Goldbloom Morgan- Morgan Freeman seems to be the popular answer, but I can't help wondering if that is because he is one of the few non caucasion actors that comes to mind. Anyone have any other thoughts (and if you say James Earl Jones I won't be impressed). This may sound like a daft idea, but I think that Eddie Murphy could pull it off (look at his excelent character acting in "coming to America, or "the nutty professor", think about that harnessed for the good of SMAC).Directed by-oliver stone, or perhaps stephen speilburg. |

I think that you are talking the whole idea of a SMAC movie the wrong way around. A movie about 400 years of future human evolution would be impossible to make! The story would just drift around and the final result would be a mess. What would make a good movie is the Journey to Alpha Centauri story, starting with Lal waking up and ending with the pods racing for Planet's atmosphere. Improve the story a little, and you have a killer script! |

SaintMathew, I am inclined to agree with you. After the blockbuster movie there could then be spin off TV shows; one for each faction. This could possibly be the basis for a whole new network [Sid Meier's Network (SMN)]?BTW, I just thought of the perfect actor to play Captain John (Kenny) Garland, he is even Canadian: Leslie Nielsen.
