I went into the alpha.txt and looked at what's there. Assuming it's enabled, and not ignored, there are three types of armor:Projectile
Energy
Binary
There are three types of weapons:
Projectile
Energy
Missile
Missile weapons never get a bonus, but the projectile and energy weapons get a 50% attack bonus when shooting at a unit with the opposite (and inappropriate) form of armor. thus projectile weapons get +50% versus energy armor and energy weapons +50% versus projectile (balistic) armor. You can thus improve your unit's performance in some cases by choosing what weapon type and armor type you enploy. In some situations the latest tech is not the best tech, a nice addition.
Binary armor is equally effective against all attacks, so is good all around armor if it's not too far below your latest discovery. Likewise missile weapons are good allaround weapons, if they aren't too far down the tree from the projectile or energy choice that's current.
More to micromanage... what fun!
