I was really hoping that they would improve on this aspect of diplomacy from Civ 2, but alas (great game all around!).
I find the computer grossly overreacts to requests to get out of my territory. A lot of the time (I have been keeping count ... currently 27/38) the computer declares vendetta, often the move down the hate list all the way to seething to boot. This seems rather extreme when all I want is for them to get out of my territory.
Suggestions:
1) Tone this down (almost ALL (90+%) of my wars start because I ask somebody to get out of my territory!).
2) Add a "Ask nicely to leave territory" which has less severe reprecussions.
Is there any element of a ini or txt file we can change to tweak this to our liking, CIO Jeff Morris?

Wow, you must have really pissed off the computer factions to get this reaction that often. If you keep a clean reputation ("Noble" or "Unsurpassed" IIRC) then in my experience they usually leave nicely.
Also, I think that in a way it is somewhat intentional that other factions keep units in your area. They might be using it to provoke you. I usually wait to communication with the faction until I have something to give or trade with them, then after the nice stuff I ask them to leave.

Granted I rarely give away anything for free, but my reputation is almost always noble and they still go beserk. If they were trying to goad me (which I accept as a possiblity) the more logical answer would be "No, what are you gonna do about it money-grubbing pig dog?" and then force me to attack them (and get the negative on reputation). I could accept this much more than "No, and now you will die money-grubbing pig dog."
Which reminds me of something else I wanted to comment on (see "Lets talk about greedy thread").
