I'm going snowboarding this weekend, I'll be playing SMAC in the car on the way up. I just hope the batteries last all the way to Tahoe...

I did a full install on my Toshiba Satellite 2515CDS. Runs fine, except for the occasional sound glitch which is forgivable. The game does look a lot better on my desktop machine, but i think that's just the difference between 800x600 versus 1024x768.

Full install on my Compaq 1655. Works great, except for the afore-mentioned sound glitches.

If I did laptop install on my desktop, would that mean that the game will run faster?

Did a laptop install on my ThinkPad 380XD and it was horrible... way too many CD reads. DO NOT install the laptop option on your desktop unless you have no space on it (in which case buy a new hard drive or uninstall something). After a FULL install of SMAC on the laptop everything ran nice and smooth albeit with sound glitches.
Anyone installing on a laptop USE THE FULL INSTALL! (You can always set the quick move preferences and such later to speed up the game) And you desktop users who think you're missing out on a laptop gaming experience because SMAC is "optimized for laptops" are severely mistaken.
