Okay, when the videos play, they take a ling time to start up and stutter for the first 5-10 seconds...is there anyway to improve this?

Also, is there a way to edit the factions? Like change their starting settings like tech, etc.? I edited the Spartan text file in the main directory, but didn't notice any changes when I started a new game...Is it possible to change factions starting conditions?

Could it be the CD-Rom spinning up? If so (and you've got megs to spare) copy them to the hard drive. You may also want to adjust your CD-Rom buffers (right click on My Computer, select properties, then performance, file system, then CD-Rom). Make sure you're running 32-bit windows drivers (on the performance page). If it says you're in "compatability mode" you're running dos drivers, which can hurt performance.

I found something a while ago that allows you to slow down the time between CD spin downs so that you cut a lot of this problem out but I can't remember what I did, I'll try and find the e-mail I sent myself when I get home.

Check this site out, it has a SPINDOWN utility which should help.

My question: I don't see any mention of which kind of drivers I'm using--probably because I'm running Windows 98. How do I check this?
