Drat. They patched a very interesting "feature" before I could try it on someone.
You can use SHIFT+N to name a landmark. The original game would let you name a landmark ANYWHERE in the whole MAP right from the start. I was going to put about 6 or 7 landmarks around the map (nowhere near my base) called "CaptComal was here".
That would have caused some real fun in throwing my opponents off-guard when they stumbled upon the first one thinking ... ah ha ... he is close by now!
However ... the "feature" is still not completely fixed ... you still can name landscapes that are in the SEA from my quick test ... and the map of unexplored territory shows the elevation of land so it is pretty easy to tell where the sea is! Heck, you can find MOUNT PLANET and GARLAND CRATER by looking at the outline of terrain in the unexplored world if you want! I think that "feature" should be fixed too since it is not fair that you know where the land and sea are before you explore it (unless of course you choose the UNITY MAP option in the game rules).
Still a few more tricks up my sleeve though.
Catch you on the battle field,
CaptComal
