Topic: Have You Bought Your SMAC Today?

I would have thought that those on the East Coast would have been posting that they bought SMAC--Using their laptops, with cellular connections, posting while driving home from the EBs to quickly install and play...I guess I assumed, too much. Oxybeles

I would have been quite happy to do so had my local EB actually recieved SMAC. The EB guy I talked to was quite surprised that it didn't come in with the UPS delivery, and then even more surprised when FedEx came and left and they still didn't have it. The only other delivery today is airmail, and he didn't hold out much hope of getting it that way. *sigh* Anyone know how they're being delivered to stores? |

I'm out on the good old American West Coast as well and the stores aren't open yet. EB said it would be today but promises aren't worth a darn to me.Am I the only person who thinks of the pimply faced, nameless teenager on The Simpsons when talking to EB or CompUSA employees? |

I've often thought of working at an EB or Babbages or one of those software chains just so the average consumer will buy a game that's actually worth playing instead of endless copies of Myst, Big Game Hunter and all that Clone & Conquer crap. (okay, so I bought Starcraft, but I showered afterward!) And by the way, just because you enjoyed watching Titanic the movie doesn't mean the game is any good, or that they're even related in any way!!Just my 2 cents on the sad affairs of the mass market computer game consumer... And speaking of the SMAC flu, I'm fortunate enough to be a student living on my parents' good graces, so I didn't have a job that I was missing, but I did find myself in a SMAC time-warp yesterday gaming for what I was certain must have been only 3 hours of play but was in fact 7. I think someone snuck into my place and set all my clocks ahead, the sneaky devils! |

Now I am at work and dying to get home. Thanks for identifying this feeling as the SMAC flu. It's always helpful to know what's wrong with you. "Hi. EBX Hillsdale (San Mateo, CA) has plenty.I'd reserved a copy, of course-- but they had a dozen copies out on the "new games" shelf, and I don't know how many more in the back. Of course, if you don't live nearby, you may be SOL (Sadly Out of Luck)-- but I bet EBWorld has some ready to ship out. EB is your friend. |

Went to Comp-USA, they never heard of it and is not on their receipt schedule. Checked Best Buy, ditto. Went to Software, ETC, picked up a copy. Said they had it for a month???? Picked up strategy guide that arrived today. What kind of distribitor is EA. Comp-USA and Best Buy don't have it, but Software ETC does. This is LasVegas. we have 1 1/2 million people here, but the two largest stores never heard and can't spell SMAC. Crazy. |

I just picked up my copy at EB in Woodbridge VA (Potomac Mills). Was able to actually patiently eat dinner with wife and daughter. If only I didn't have the misfortune of people expecting me at meetings Thursday and Friday (early in the morning too, to add insult to injury), I would call in and request leave for those days. At least I'll have a three day weekend... Stocked up on Diet Pepsi. Now I just need big bags of chips. |

Bangkok, ThailandIve just bought a copy of SMAC. The price is around US$10 (listed price of US$18) pretty good deal. I believe the price is subsidized by EA. However, dont be so mad if you bought it at US$50. To save cost, a manual was printed with kind of lower grade paper. More importantly, there is no tech. chart poster (I heard that its available somewhere else). Another bad thing is that manual is in Thai but the translation sucks. EA shouldve hired me to do the translation. I feel that EA is going into the right direction. Lowering the price is one way to combat software piracy. The place nearby sales pirated version of SMAC at US$2 (CD only). However, if people realize that the legal one comes with a pretty detail manual at not so much higher price, I believe, many people (including myself) will think twice before they buy the pirated one. Nevertheless, EA should use some PR to educate people about the benefit of buying legal software. Finally, Im very happy with the fact that now I can buy a game basically the same time as it released somewhere else in the world. The price is also very reasonable. It used to be like US$65 for Civ II copy (US cost + Tax + Shipping). At that kind of price not many people will buy it when the pirated one only cost US$2 and getting lower and lower every day (it used to be like US$5, 2-3 years ago). I give all credits to EA. Hope other game companies do the same.

I bought my copy of SMAC yesterday at EB in Milpitas (Great Mall) for 44.95.I'm very impressed with the presentation quality. The manual is huge and excellant, The game comes with a nice big glossy poster, and on top of all that, the game is fun! In this day of CD-ROM insert manuals, it's nice to buy a game with a nice meaty manual. I for one never buy strategy guides. They are a complete rip-off and basically only include information that should of been in the manual in the first place. If I need more info, I'll wait for a strat guide or FAQ on the Internet. |
