Yikes! 2 hours into my 1st game and all the other factions are demading tech I Have. If I say no, they declare war. Anyway to stop this short of a) declaring war on them 1st b) bribing them?

I think most factions tend NOT to declare war when you refuse tech, unless you've been an underhanded little bugger for most of the game. Definetly give techs to enemies who are powerful (Yang, Spartans) and who are near your territory. Give factions who are far away from your location the finger. Even with Needlejets, they can't reach you for a long time. Ignore the more peaceful factions (Peacekeepers, Morganites, University.) It's rare that they declare war for those sort of things, unless they're seething with rage and/or you have the complete antithesis of their government (i.e. Police State against PKs, Planned Economy vs. Morganites, Fundamentalism vs. University.) And the ones in the middle (Believers, Gaians) should be dealt with via an anger/power vs. proximity sort of thing. Or, you can slow down your speedy research and focus on stockpiling some heavy duty armies to take care of those annoying neighbors. |

basically, refuse them(unless they are BIG, or the hive, spartans or believers. It'll cost more to get them to sign a truce than to avoid vendetta). Also, try refusing to give them tech, and then asking to trade. They almost always will trade, since you obviously have something they really want. |

if its the hive, give it no matter what. Their cities are almost impossible to take. The peacekeepers are the opposite side of the scale, never give them tech! |

Well, I nearly never found myself in the position of being forced to give a tech. Raw luck? Maybe, I have to say that I didn't found the AIs in demo 1.1 getting more aggressive than before. As for the Hive, if it's not too late in the game, armed with few probes and lots of patience I usually get to take down their bases perimeters, they only yell a bit, but don't even go Vendetta! Thinker level, UoP or Santiago (name her Ripley or Connor). |

BUILT UP YOUR ARMY AND KILL ANYONE WHO ASK TECH FROM YOU!!!YOU SHOULD BE THE ONE WHO ASK FOR TECH, NOT THE OPPOSITE...AND CAN EVEN ASK FOR BASE... I've play PK in tiny map, trancend level, and kill everybody, who said PK is easy to deal with, just depend on who's the player... |

Just playing the demo, i find that the University is a good tech partner if you can keep em happy. They will almost always have something new to offer you, and if you give them your techs, you can avoid duplication, and thus wasted time. Of course, if they turn on you, you're in big trouble |

You MUST use the knowledge value though, even though wealth gives me as much of a tech bonus and extra energy. |
