Well i finally got my version of Alpha Centauri - and no it is not a pirated version or some hacked version but the real thing.Installed it over lunch to have a look and played for about 70 turns, so heres my *brief* comments so far...(i have a PII 333Mhz, 64Mb Ram - i did a complete install)
Its alot like the demo in looks but with more extras - ie more sounds, when you discover something you get a voice over which reads the quotes they have in each discovery (i like the way the voice fades out when you click to do something else) - i have seen two secret project cut scenes - the weather paradigm and the holoworld one - both were pretty impressive - again with voice overs.
Unfortunatly i didnt play long enough to see any of the new stuff (had to get back to work!) so it played alot like the demo - one thing was that it used the highres graphic set and like the problems they had in the new demo some of my units move *painfully* slowly when i move them manually - no big deal for me though since i tend to only manually move a few things at at time...
what else - well since i loved the demo i of course love the game because it just has more - mainly though i've noticed just different sounds - when moving through menus, listening to the voice overs.
Another new thing is when you do the 'first' of something ie build first base, discover first advance etc etc you get a static screen of a pyramid with a type of video screen at the top which has more static screens (hard to explain but you'll see once you get it).
Well thats about it for now - if anyone has any specific questions just email me or post here and i'll see if i can answer them...
