Recently investigation suggests an additional influence for SMAC's backstory:Gilligan's Island! Seven characters... seven factions. Coincidence? I think not! * The Professor: University of Planet Come on, where else would he be? The guy could manufacture advanced scientific equipment out of coconuts! * Mary Anne: Gaians Any person this wholesome has GOT to be a tree-hugger. * Ginger: Believers Charismatic. Men would be willing to do ANYTHING to win her favour--even charge into certain death! * Mr. Howell: Morganites The quintessential capitalist. If money can't buy it, it's not worth having! * Gilligan: Peacekeepers Of all the characters, Gilligan was the one who tried hardest to get along with *everybody*. OK, so I'm having trouble rationalizing Mrs. Howell as the leader of the Hive, or The Skipper as the leader of the Spartans, but it was fun while it lasted. :-) (Can you tell that I'm just a bit impatient for the game to hit the stores? ;-) -- Lee

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale A tale of a fateful trip That started from the Planet Earth Aboard the Unity ShipThe mate has a knack for thought-control The Captain's dead for sure The crew's fighting each other for A pla-a-net azure, a pla-a-net azure A cryobay has blown blown up So many lives were cost And now that the crew's fightin' tooth and nail The Unity'll be lost, the Unity'll be lost The ship's flyin towards the surface Of the Planet Chiron With Miriam, the Surgeon too The C-E-O, and Prokhor The ecologist, Santiago and Chairman Yang Here on Alpha Centaur So this is the tale of our colonists They're here for a long, long time They'll have to make the best of things It's an uphill climb The mind behind this Pla-a-net Will do its very best To make them all uncomfortable Inside a mindworm's nest No comms, no comps, no rover cars Not a single luxury Its worse than it was back on Earth More primitive than can be So join us here each turn, my friends You'll enjoy it much, mon With our seven fractious factions Here on the Planet Chiron ********************************** Borodino, just takin' it to extremes |

<Blushing>Thanks all. I'm honored by your approval [and by being ranked with such august company, jsorense] Also, should Firaxis wish to follow cousLee's suggestion, I waive all rights to this song. [I'm not sure I had any rights to it at all before I just did that, but if I did, they can have them.] |

Good one.Maybe it's possible to cast the Brady Bunch as SMAC faction leaders? OK. Not in the same class but, here goes: Here's a story of a lovely lady Called Miriam who always went to church And the story of a man named Morgan With so much money he didn't count its worth No. No. No more. Sorry I can't take it..... |

That song *is* downloadable... sort of. At least, in text only. A while ago, there was a SMAC songs thread, I think in the factions section. It was called "Gaia's theme song" or something like that, I think. Anyhow, I collected all the songs (with permission) and put them in a big text file on The Arrival (http://ac.strategy-gaming.com).Borodino: The one you posted seems like a slightly different version. Did you change it or something? If you did, can I put the updated version on? Thanks. |
