Topic: Swaying votes doesn't always work-- bug or feature?

I noticed that when I offered money to one faction to vote in planetary election, after the transaction, they were still set to "abstain". I then offered a bunch of technology, and they still abstained. Is this AI just welching on the deal, or is it a bug? Did it happen to anyone else? I've played the demo countless times, but never seen it happen before...

THEY WANTED TO ABSTAIN. BESIDES, THEY SAY THAT. |

Yeah, Morgan is really one to screw you on this one. So, unless I'm pacted with a faction, and they are not pacted with another candidate (PG or SL elections) I don't count on their votes.A feature, definitely. JAMiAM |

Wouldn't it be nice if the AI tried to buy your vote during the election with cash or techs? If I'm not in it, I usually don't care who wins it. But a little cash might make me care. akathisia-being away from the forum for two weeks somehow makes you care a whole lot less about what goes on here |

akathisia,I often get offered a cash bribe to support a canididate for governor. That is, when I'm not one of the candidates. It happens a lot when you are actually the swing voter. JAMiAM |

JAMI've never had that happen. I must be too good and always in first. Really, I've played an average of a game or two a week each week since the game was first released and there were times that my vote would've made a difference (especially in the early game) and they didn't try to bribe me. I've only 4th and 5th levels though, maybe its more common on transcend? Now I'll have to stay away from the lead to see if it'll happen. Thanks for the heads up. |

Add me to the list of people who have seen the AI accept a bribe and then refuse to honour it. I wonder if this is related to your rep? It doesn't seem to happen if you have a noble rep.The AI regularly offers me bribes if I am the swing vote on electing the governer. Don't think I have seen this in any of the other agenda items that council can voted on. A cool thing happened last night. I was a distant second in votes but bribed enough other factions to get elected governer. Some years later the inevitable happened and the faction that was number 1 in votes wanted to elect a new governer. By this time some other faction was number 2 in votes, so I thought I'd lose my position for sure. With an amazing bit of luck I had exactly enough votes to deadlock the election, thus staying on as governer. |

akathisia - theres a lot to be said for not being in the lead.I like to hang a close second for most of the game then scorch ahead in the endgame. It makes life so much easier - if your first everybody hates you, if your second your much more popular Beta-1 pacing himself |
