Jeffrey Morris FIRAXIS posted this earlier today in another topic:"Various versions of patch 4 are already complete, but we are waiting for them all to sign-off for a simulatenous worldwide release." So I guess we are getting closer. How close? Your guess is as good as mine. *Shrug* *Sigh* SMAC n ... Ted S.

Thank you tfs, maybe you should work for Firaxis as publicity . As it is, you're reporting more on this then they are. Go figure... |

Well, if they release the patch like the Game, it won't be all at once. So we should furthur specify... is it the English, Spanish, Italian, German, etc. Patch release date and time we are talking about?-Darkstar |

Actually they said they were releasing all versions at once. This is supposedly what is taking so long. Maybe we'll get patch 4.0 as a christmas present. |

Hmmm... well I for one am glad that Firaxis are going to release the patch at the same time in all versions... it sucked having to wait for the UK version of Patch 3 to come out, while all you American types were telling me how great it was!Goob: Err wouldn't that be the prize for the loser?!? And anyway... since when did you stop being a newt? Nell... hoping Patch 4 comes with a Star Wars faction... lolol |

Nell,I seem to remember our open minded transatlantic bretheren were suggesting that the patch sucked in all sorts of different positions but revelled in the fact that they couldn't be challenged on it by us geezers over here. |

Didn't the UK beat France back in the 19th century and didn't we both beat Germany recently? FurXs!! We demand that you show the English speaking peoples of the world the respect that they so richly deserve, owing to there unrivalled prowess on the battlefields of history!! Ted: Didn't know that the US and UK versions had been merged... good news though Gotta admit to one defeat at the hands of the dastardly French... although it was sort of a cheat... 1066 and all that! Nell... hoping Patch 4 will be the answer to her dreams... |

And since 1066 England and France have been at war about 22 times. That's more than twice per century! This whole 'fighting the Germans' business is just a recent fad, I'm sure it won't last. |

The merging is only a good thing if the text doesn't use words which are spelt differently. I wouldn't, for example, like Dierdre to ask to see the "color" of my money (anything else, she can see free); or to know that the Talent in the Interludes was my "favorite". Ugh. |

Nell: We weren't beaten by the French in 1066 but by the Normans (who hated the Franks too IIRC). At least that's what i tell myself... beaten by the FRENCH??? Never! |

Hi,some german smac-players shouted loudest about having to wait such long for version 3, after english was out. Now they got the receipt for it: For v4, they even have to wait longer than for v3, because they still have to wait for the italian version, which takes more time than the german/french one. Still I think its fair some how. Of course, I can understand US ppl who have to wait longest for the last language-version. But do you have any better solution, other than being egoistic?? ARES 7

Hi everybody,hi Ted, I have read your posting in this topic from 070199. Being quite dissapointed about you. There are two possibilities: - You wanted to shape yourself with some of your strange humour. - You wanted to make clear, what military-gloryfying, racialistic individual you are. Of course, you will say, the first one (hope so), but still: doesnt it reflect indirectly and/or subconsciously some things about what you are? When you hear the name of a country: is this all you can think of the gloriously won wars of the last hundred or thousand years? 60 70 years ago, maniy facist people in many countries thought, being able to win in a war against an other nation means racial superiority over this nation (race) and racial superiority justyfies an extinguishing war against this race. And now (in1999!) you, Ted, come and talk about the respect, english speaking world deserves so richly, owing to there unrivalled prowess on the battlefields of history. Even to make jokes about this, you must have these thoughts in your mind! I consider war as a very ugly and despisable thing. Even if a tyrrann is not to stop on any other way than the military one, war and winning a war is nothing to boast at all. It is a coming down to the very low level ot the tyrrann, fighting him with the same cruel man-killing weapons he is using. War means imo that mankind is defeated on its attemt to solve a crisis on diplomatic way. Sometimes war may be a necessity to stop certain evil developments in a part of the world, but the winners should always keep in mind, that with beginning of the war, mankind already got a defeat. So, its nothing to boast about, isnt it. May be, its not you individually thinking this way. May be, its education of whole nations in the recent time (more than 50 years, you refer as recently!). This shocks me even more. I hope, some people are willing to think about this. ARES 7 You think, on a smac-page, such thoughts are ok or even in the right place? I dont think so. I like to seperate reality and game-world.

I'd like to ask, a maybe somewhat naive question, but what is the difference between the US and UK version of the game? It can't only be spelling differences > . |

IIRC EA required copy protection for the customers across the pond. It was not included in the US version, and is the source of much grief. But I thought that had been resolved in v3.0 (?? just what did 3.0 fix?) |

>>>>> ARES 7Not sure what to say. Sorry if I offended you. I was really just trying to see if I could get a "rise" out of Nell. I suppose it shows some lack of sensitivity to joke about such things, but I had absolutely zero expectation that anyone would take the joke seriously, especially to the extent that you did A7. I don't think the joke says much about me, my attitudes and motivations. Does it? I am a student of history and I am of German descent, if that helps much. Ah well ... SMAC n ... Ted S. |

What 3.0 Fixed... I could post you the Readme, but that isn't accurate. However, the UK 3.0 and US 3.0 were merged (meaning they stopped making the UK version, I think). Previous UK had copy protection. Version UK/US 3.0 does not. -Darkstar |

There is something in the obscene, and the insulting that makes those not insulted and those not offended often find humor (or humour for you Brit's).Straying from the socially acceptable and polite, stepping towards an extreme is an element of comedy. ARES7, I doubt there are more than a few Americans who have not had thoughts at least similar to tfs', because of the culture we are reared in and the effect of mass media, maybe it is the result of being the victor in W.W.II. I don't know for sure. Some people who have had these types of thoughts, however fleeting, have the sense of judgement not to voice them. Others, people who would never act upon these thoughts, voice them in situations they feel comfortable in, in an attempt at being funny, their success as always is based on timing. Then of course there are the firnge members of society that actually believe these things, (and they are further divided into those who will actually act on the thoughts and those that won't). I shudder whenever I come across these individuals. In a perfect world those of us who enjoy humo(u)r that treads in the nether regions of stereotypes, bigotry, and offensiveness, would not find the comedy there. I enjoy the "twistedness" of it. I like saying things that are so out of character for myself that people stop and look at me, and often stop and think period. I know people who continuously spew misogynistic comments that are meant as jokes, as well as racist and bigoted comments meant to be funny (at least they are laughing at them ). But since this has become their pattern, and their norm it has lost any possible chance at being funny. It has gotten to the point that they sound hateful. It is a thin line without a doubt. There are people on this forum, and some who are no longer here, in name, who cross that line everyday. It is the price we pay to be in "interesting" company. To be thought of in the curse, "May you live in interesting times.", as well as the more typical meaning. Goob |
