Right I cant stand the state this forum has lapsed into since I have been away.Drastic reform needed now! and Quick! 1. Too many Social Posts 2. Your average SMAC player no longer has his posts read because of the growing proportion of so called Story threads! And I am being a sad bastard!! And I think someone should give me a virtual slap for posting somany topics in the space of 2 hours!

Bossman,I have to agree. It's not that I dislike nor care that folks post off-topic. Its all in good natured but I am REALLY surprised at the lack of talk on smac, speculation of smacx, and its tie in with civ3. Where is the speculations for smacx... It almost seems that folks have lost interest. GreasyPig

Greasy Pig...I think we have. We have been waiting on Patch 4 for so long, we have forgotten about SMAC X. Well, of actually believing in it as something other than Vapor Ware. Ask Yin. He'll tell you. Personally, I am biding my time. It will happen or it won't. I mean, it seems like the Patch 4 has been at EA HQ Q&A for about the last 6 weeks. SMAC X has a small and limited development team, due to Civ3 and Sid3/SMEG being underway. The tie in? Simple... instead of it being the UN Unity, if you complete a Spaceship victory, it will be the [YourCiv] [YourRulerName]. Everything else will be the same. -Darkstar |

My speculations for SMACX are that either: It'll be a few cosmetic changes in an add-on format, or it'll be a patch 5 that we have to pay for.I just quit playing the game in single play mode entirely, and I think the reason that you have so many off-topic posts is that there's nothing on-topic that hasn't been answered, or that isn't just speculation about what the Gods of Firaxis will deign to sell us next. Except for PBEM's, the forums are more interesting than the game, which is simply tired. Civ and CivII kept my interest up for far longer, as did MOO, MOO2, AOE, SMG and a host of others. If it wasn't for PBEM's, I'd join trippin and just take it off my hard drive and sell it for five bucks. |

MtG - They (being Brian and Jeff) have already told us that SMACX is patch 5.0. But they are going to throw in some extras... you know, 7 new factions. Maybe a few alien invasion scenarios. That sort of thing. And they have also told us that after that, SMAC is dead. They might make a last patch, *IF* we yell loud enough, kick up a big stink, and they so totatly mess up in patching it. But after that, its Civ3 and Sid3 all the way. Mind you, that means... they can't do SMACX until Patch 4 is done, and that either patch 4 or SMACX will have the fix in it to pick up where Civ3 tells it to. Frankly, if SMAC was just a little worse, it would be off my hard-drive and I'd suffer through Civ2 when I wanted to play a TBS world spanning game. -Darkstar |

Yeah... I hardly ever play solo SMAC now, and if I do, I tend to play to M.Y.2200 or so and then quit and restart... somehow I can't be bothered to go through the motions any more. CIV2 did, for some reason, hold my interest far longer... I couldn't say why, except to speculate that it's because, now that I'm playing PBEM against real people, something you couldn't do with CIV2 (or could you? err I never tried), I can't be bothered with the AI any more... it's too predictable. Or maybe it's because SMAC is, give or take a few diplomatic options, pretty much the same game as CIV2 (only with funkier graphics)... so, having spent a year or more constantly CIVing, to the point where Deity level games were no problem, SMAC hasn't got anything new and different enought to grab my attention for very long.Likewise, most SMAC-related topics have been done to death on the forum, although actually there are still plenty of new ones, and old ones resurfacing all the time. I guess it's inevitable that, in the end, when a bunch of forum posters get to know each other and exhaust all possible SMAC-related topics, they're going to start talking about... each other Anyway, Bossman, why not just give up and join in... the story threads need you!! You will be assimilated... resistance is futile... Nell... Borg Queen today... |

Humph !It's YOUR fault Bossman, you deserted us, we had to fend for ourselves... It was the best we could do... And there's only so many times you can play "Which faction is the best" BTW, Are you in a cyber cafe, or did you get a home modem ? |

Actually, I prefer to talk about other matters than SMAC for now and just wait in the patch, the SMACX add-on and more newbies. What's so interesting in speculating on those, anyway? All of them will have lots of bugs.Okay, I did start a serious thread or two just a while ago. But what's the point with a thread police right now? Anyway, that's where I stand. Firmly. Lets get into the game again seriously when the patch or SMACX shows up. As for Civ 3, it ain't even in the horizon really... and as many have voted in the "3 sensetive polls" thread, almost everyone think it will be mostly an eye-candy game with a few improvements. So I'm not exactly longing for that game yet...

Here's an idea...Purely Speculation...CivIII will be a space game, with the "World" being the galaxy, and we must colonize the planets. This would give us a new format in expanding...no more land...ocean...land. Now it would be Solar Systems...open space...Solar systems. Maybe not a big change, but at least it would provide a change in look and feel. They could use the factions from SMAC, and have Alien factions from other planets...and so on. I personally am not in favor of this, I think it would suck, but that just seems to be a logical step to me-> Earth->Colonize 1 Planet-> Colonize the Galaxy. What's next, the universe? OK, Now that I've drowned you all with my mindless dribble, I think my job is done here:| |
