Topic: BUG: Units reset when taking empty base

Has anyone experienced the bug described below? When taking empty bases with damaged units, which have used most of their movement allowance for the turn, the unit takes the base and immediately is restored to 100% fit, and has its full movement allowance for the turn available. I have the latest patch installed and have had this occur many times in the last game I tried. In fact I managed to get a speeder to move, attack and take a base, which restored the movement allowance, then move again, attack again and take another base. Dr Nick.

I don't know if that's a bug, per se, or just a loophole in a slack design decision, but it's another carryover from the CivII combat engine, which SMAC has only changed ever so slightly. The unit is always repaired, and depending on the circumstances (railroads/mag tubes) and move/damage values, the unit can pick up new movement. It's definitely not good design, from the standpoint of making the AI competitive. |

Dr Nick,It is a feature, not a bug. Your units get rebuilt to reflect "spoils of war" taken from the base. Your units do not gain their full movement back, however. They may pickup what seems to be "extra" movement points because the amount of movement that a unit has is dependent upon damage levels. For example a foil with 50% damage has 2 MPs. So, if it moves 2 tiles into an empty enemy base, it captures, rebuilds to 100% and then has 2 MPs left to continue movement. JAMiAM |

He may have not played civ games before. It does give an advantage over the ai but I like it. I always take a base with my most damaged unit. Free healing. |

I like it too, it allows you to roll over a few bases with a reasonably small force if you manage who captures the base properly. |

I always thought of it as "spoils of war" for taking a city. I used it so regularly in Civ2 that I hadn't even noticed I was using it in SMAC.So now its not a not a bug, its a feature |

I always assumed it was deliberate. Take a city get gold and a repaired unit. |

Well I feel so much better knowing it is a feature, and I'm not cheating the AI by exploiting it. As Krushala guessed, I had not played CIV, and I didn't see this feature in the manual for SMAC. Thanks to all who replied. Dr Nick. |
