Isn't that just further proof that the manual is both inaccurate and inadequate?I go now. |

LoD,This was indeed sent to Firaxis. Their original response was, "The Manual is wrong." Our response was, "The game is wrong. Please change it to 40." We'll see...

LoD - The story, as far as we know, is that originally Singularity Engines were worth 40. At the last minute, Firaxis changed it. However, they didn't change all the Datalinks to match, and the manual was already printed. They also didn't readjust the Psi combat modifier. It still makes a Sing unit attacked in combat have 7.5, not 10.Yin - "The game is wrong." LMAO! That was hilarious! Now, that is a REAL user/customer. -Darkstar |

What? I'm not 30 or 40 years old, you're all wrong. |

Don't believe everything Firaxis says. I don't see any reason for making that change in the game. It's more likely that they entered the wrong data. Perhaps they felt it was too embarassing for them to admit such a kind of mistake (which is nothing but negligence in the programmers' part). Then of course, there are bugs much worse than this. (How about the maintenance cost bug at thinker and transcend.) |

VictorK: maintenance cost bug?Darkstar: anyone know which byte(s) contain the "30", so we can hexedit the game back to "40"? Hmm, if this "30" is supposed to improve game balance, I don't see how, because anyone who survives to Singularity reactors has the game all sewn up without using them, so what's the point? It does indeed look like a goof-up. Of course the bigger goof-up is that one easily wins by diplomacy (anyone) or conquest (Miriam) so very much lower in the tech tree, even on Huge maps. |

Yes, the maintenance cost bug I reported a while ago in the bugs forum. The bug significantly lowers the challenge of the game at transcend and thinker. It was probably a result of the programmers messing up with the difficulty levels (they mistook transcend for citizen, and thinker for specialist). So it would be natural that they messed up with the data for reactor types, too.It has nothing to do with game balance. By saying that, Firaxis has been taking us avid gamers like fools. |

VictorK, Firaxis has been doing that since the Demo was released. Why do you think they should treat us like rational, thinking people? They have rabid fan-boys and girls that post responses such as "THERE ARE NO BUGS IN THE GAME YOU LAMER GAY LESBO BOZO CLOWN! GO AWAY AND SCREW YOUR NEIGHBOR'S PET AND LEAVE US REAL SMACKERS ALONE!" [This is a classic fan-boy responce preserved from the lost archives].Some of these lunatics are still around. Go call out Imran... he'll tell you are just silly, they MEANT for every little "oddity". He's a nice guy, but RABID fan. And then there is Firaxis's classic response of "Its your system." How code functioning DIFFERENT using the keyboard shortcut versus menu command is my OS's fault, I have YET to figure out. So yes, it seems that Firaxis thinks we are all rabid idiots that can't find our own behinds with specific instructions in a manual authored by them. Can't imagine that they will change either. They have no reason. They are all living gods who can't make mistakes, obviously. They do get told that an awful lot. Besides, any SMACophant already knows that... -Darkstar (Seeing his trusty steed ready to ride again into the Dark Crusades...) |
