I always have fusion before I get a PB, so why would anyone build a Fission PB? It doesn't make sense. Or is there some tactic i'm missing?

It's the blast radius - if you want to surgically wipe out a stack of enemy units, without damaging what's next door. It's like having a choice between a hand grenade, a 4.2" mortar, a 155mm artilery round, or a MLRS rocket - all a matter of matching what you want to do with the right weapon. |

Not only it's great for wiping out enemy units, but also for destroing land bridges and single cities of strategic value to the enemy. Michael: you have FF(hex) posts currently.LoD |

LoD, now it's 107h, but my counter causes a self-destruct sequence to detonate at 999 posts(decimal, not hex) so I don't mutate into a dreaded transcendi and get an V/N superiority attitude.Just joking, and seeing if John III the sniper will find this one and fire off a round. MtG |

My post count is AFh right now (it'll be B0h after I post this - digging in those savegames really paid off ). I'm not sure if I got your joke right - is it because John III already transcended?LoD |

It's actually two jokes - first a general one about the whole "transcendence" thing on the forum, which I consider a joke in and of itself (Permanent Newbie and proud of it).John III is OK, and interesting/entertaining at times, but a lot of his posts, at least in this forum, are one line quotes of someone else's posts, and a comment about the quoted section, so that's why I refer to him as a sniper. No multibarreled flamethrowers for him, just these little one round snippets of wit or commentary. I was experimenting to see if he checked all these threads, but all in good fun. IMO, anybody who hasn't dug into save files to play with them isn't a serious gamer. I do a lot of programming, so I'm always curious to see how the data is saved. |

By your definition, Michael, hArDmAn is also a snipper - but a crappy one. BTW, I'm almost done with the tic-tac-toe AI. My only problem is it skips one "if" statement for no apparent reason. You are right about the savegames. Unfortunately, some people think that digging in them is *always* equal to cheating (the same type of people think that the Internet is the spawn of Satan) - hence my last message in this thread. I am honoured the theGreatMichael should refer to me as: "OK, and interesting/entertaining at times". However... "No multibarreled flamethrowers for him, just these little one round snippets of wit or commentary". Multibarreled flamethrowers? How positively mundane. "I was experimenting to see if he checked all these threads" Nope. Pure fluke. "is it because John III already transcended" I am now, but I hadn't in the Victor Galis discussion. Oh dear, I'm sniping again John III |

But John III is a fairly friendly sniper, so no need to call the four-deuce mortars down on him.I'm disappointed John, I thought you'd be by to fire off your round sooner. PS - Have you ever sniped any of that idiot Rimmer's posts? Now that would be fun to see. |
