Anyone ever here of Pirates!Gold? Its an old Genesis game that's very rare to find but it was made by Sid Meier...pretty cool game, you play (duh) a piratte sailing the seas looking for.......gold. you got different kinds of ships and you had different nations (English, Spanish, Dutch, French, etc.) and what you did affected how those nations treated you. Anyway, just thought you'd might like to know about this pretty cool game that was never really popular...

There have been several posts and threads about both Pirates! and Pirates! Gold. Many on these forums have it as their favourite game ever (I'm not one of them, however), so I think you'll find that it is more popular than you think (at least here). |

The original Pirates! for the PC (I think the first version was for the C64, but now I've proven I'm an old fart, and so are you if you even know what one is.) was the absolute coolest PC game of its generation. It really launched the RPG, RTS and intelligent (as opposed to pure hack and slash) action/adventure game genres. Pirates! Gold was just a graphics update to 256 color VGA, and rewritten to DOS instead of the custom OS of the original, so it didn't get the huge degree of attention that the original got. |

Your not that old Micheal. I remember playing Solo Flight on my C64. For the benefit you younguns, this was one of Sid's first games. ~Rackam |

I remember solo flight - it was called something different in the PC version, but there was a huge number of games that Sid cranked out in the mid-80's on that founded a lot of the modern game genres. Command decision (if I recall the name correctly), Kennedy approach, the original F-15 Strike Eagle. All those PC games fit on one or two 5-1/4 floppies.Later, I believe Covert Action was partly a Sid design, and I always thought that one was cute and funny. Sword of the Samurai was another great oldie - but an MPS game not designed by Sid, if I recall. |

PS - Rackam, it's nice to know that not everyone here is a pimply teenager who can't remember what a 486 was. |

Ah, Pirates... The time of 286 and CGA emulators (I had Hercules back then)... I'm wondering - since F-19 was by Microprose, did Sid have any input in it (It was the first game I played on my PC, so I'm curious about it)?LoD |

My favourite Sidgame is Railroad Tycoon. I played this for hours and hours and hours on a friends computer. Now if only I could find a copy of it. The original, not deluxe which doesn't have the England map. |

Yep, I remember Pirates!. First time I played it on my friend's computer and I didn't understand anything that was happening. And I'm a pimple-faced teenager.*Sigh* I still remember my old Amiga 500. I got it even before I went to school. Mostly plaid M1 Tank Platoon but after I got Civilization... You probably can guess the rest. |
