I think this was the best game released by Sid and Co. There has never been a game so addicting with a finish so climatical!I'd love to see a new edition come up sometime Actually does anyone know how to fix the bug whereby extremely high scores aren't recorded officially in the Hall of Fame? -- Hugh

Yes!!! Colonization 2 should be made ! I _loved_ producing humongous amounts of fur coats, cigars, cloth, rum and silver for huge profits at the same time as building a large army, educating my colonists and working for independence. The terrain was varied (unlike SMAC) and you really got the feeling that your colonists actually did something (unlike SMAC). And I was _so_ satisfied with winning. |

I love it still - it's the only DOS native game I still play. Unfortunately, and for who knows what reasons, it didn't sell that well, and was completely dissed by game press reviewers, so although it was and still is a great game, it was a critical and commercial flop. The rights are undoubtedly still owned by Microprose-Hasbro, so the likelihood of us ever seeing it is nil.Colonization was the first rework of the original Civ engine, and like Civ and Civ II, you can break the high score counters - the problem is too deeply ingrained in the design to be fixed, so it never was, on any of the games. The same thing can happen with population counters, etc. |

Well.. i dont' know if it was a critical flow.. Computer game review gave it a 93% average score.Too bad about the bug.. i thought it might be easy to fix I ended up calculating my score, saving the game, and writing it down hehe. -- Hugh What do you think this 'secret' firaxis game is? Pirates 2? Colo 2? Something totally different? |

Something completely different. It's meant to fit with the CivIII/SMAC epic somewhere - which means it's unlikely to be a new Colonisation, Pirates, or F-117A for that matter (though all transcendii must enjoy flying stealth missions over iraq ). |

Yes! Total support for the production of Colonization 2, I'm not an American, so I'd probably never know the patriotic feel you guys get when playing the game, but besides the fact you can get to fight in the American War of Independence it was fun just trading the numerous resources, value adding the resources in factories, raiding trade vessels with privateers and making sure not to anger Native Americans at the same time. It's a great game, and with more options, units (if possible) and a reworking of those excellent MIDIs into possibly Redbook Audio format I reckon Colonization 2 could be a hit. But what am I saying, this is only a dream anyhow . Ah well there's my contribution, just had to get it out of my system . |

Colonization was too ugly for even me to love. And I played Civ 1 for hours ! |

Well it sure isn't ugly.. that's for sure.. even now i still like it. The gameplay is simply the best.Actually in a recent Brian Reynolds interview he admitted to thinking about 'redoing' some old classics, notably colonization. -- Beaster |

Well yeah, Colonization wasn't too bad, and I agree the terrain was much more colorful and varied than in SMAC, but it has been in all previous empire-building games. The terrain is one of the worst things in SMAC, it's really boring...Personally I would prefer a Master of Orion 2 first, but I doubt there will be neither a Col2 nor a MOO3. The little secret will probably be some silly game that Sid has always wanted to make, but hasn't actually made since noone would have bought it and MPS said no... Just guessing of course, it might be a good secret as well... |

All right! Great to see support for the 'forgotten' game of the Civ series. AFAIC, the 'Trilogy of Time' is already complete. Civ, Col, and SMAC. What more is there? |

Rackam the asteroid object - Yes, PG is also an awesome game - the original Pirates! on the PC was late eighties vintage, on two 5-1/4 disks, four color CGA. There was very little story/game enhancment between the original and PG - the only major change was to update the graphics to then state of the art. I spent more time playing the original Pirates! than probably any other game, except for Civ when it first came out. Both of those games, when I first got them, I called in sick for work and went on a 48 to 60 hour sleepless play binge.Hugh - Colonization was rated very highly in the strategy game oriented press, but almost totally ignored elsewhere in favor of the different game genres developing at that time, and that helped kill its appeal to the general market. Also, Microprose did not promote it much or well at all. |

Colonization was one of my favourite games along with PG and Civ. I really hope that they do make a Colonization II and another Pirates. I haven't been able to play either of them for a while but I am in the process of resurecting an old 486 and hope to remedy that soon. |

IMO the graphics for Colonization was much better in the Amiga version than in the PC version, but I could be wrong as I played the PC version years later. And yes, I almost forgot about the Privateers. That was so much fun, raiding the other powers' ships and with no diplomatic penalties . |
