OK, I've been playing this game for about three months, and I'm *still* not getting all the techs before 2300 (with UoP on Transcend). So, what are the ways of doing so aside from: -switching to SE choices that improve (directly or indirectly) your research points amount ( FM, Cybernetic, Eudaimonic, etc.) -building lab output improving facilities/SPs -building terrain improvements, which improve the energy output (forests/E. mirrors/collectors/boreholes) -sacrificing the energy reserves income to research points -making major Alien Artifact hunts (Note - I didn't say I was using all of the above...) ?LoD

There are some more: - building orbital energy stations - using drill to aquifer order with formers - using specialists (librarians, transcendents)

Other good ways:Supply Crawlers. They don't require Support . Bring in Food with them and then transfer your Farmers into Scientists. "Super" Research City--usually the HQ b/c of high Efficiency. Suppercollider-Theory of Everything-Networkbackbone-Merchant Exchange (This'll come in handy when energy bonues converts to Research PTs with another SP, I forgot which). Steal tech with Probes. |

Good answers to a good question. I have another question. It is my understanding that the +2 growth associated with the Golden Age does not work. It has not worked for me in regard to trying to combine with Dem/Plan to create a pop boom. But, you can get the boom with Children's Creche(+2)/Dem/Plan=+6. My question is about Yang. How can the Hive boom since they can not use Democratic? Yang is +1 growth, +2 Creche, +2 Planned = +5 This is one short of that needed to boom. This seems to negate the Hive growth bonus in the mid and late game. Question: Does the Golden Age give at least a +1, which would allow Yang to boom if the other factors listed above are in place? Lod, to get back to your question, pop boom is a great way to boost overall everything. But the Golden Age can be awesome depending on your SE/Faction combo. It gives you +1 Ecomony. Check this out. Try it and you can thank me later. jimmytrick "Its the economy stupid!" (Bill Clinton) |

jimmytrick-- Golden ages will not give you population booms with Demo/planned or creches, but will shorten your food supply needed for growth. You are right that this can be a considerable penalty for Yang, since he cannot boom, but you have to also consider how quickly he grows at the beginning. Playing Yang you have to get to the Vats first, or just crush everyone before they can outgrow and outresearch you. This seems to happen quite often in my experience. |

Thank you people! Unfortunately, I've just realized that I was using all of the methods posted here (maybe except for StargazerBC's one about using Supply Crawlers to boost nutrients). So, is there anything else there is to it? jimmytrick: To supplement Smeagol's post - if you won't manage to get the C Vats, you can always turn to Eudaimonic.LoD PS. Thanks to the TheScientist's post I recalled a (somewhat) embarrassing incident that happened in one of my games. Having 70 or so colonies (~50 made after the CV/Space Elevator combo was completed) I made use of the building queue. As a result, by the end of the game I had about 250 Energy transmitters, 130 Hydroponics Labs and so on.

Here's a trick(cheat) you can do. Edit the univ.txt to make the University have +2 economy, I always beat the game before 2300 will all techs. BTW, use wordpad for editing those types of files. |

Err, TheHelperMonkey, thanks - but I meant getting the tech without using such "tricks"LoD |

I find the best way to up my population (and therefore science) is to find Miriam and test her with anal probes. Then what I do is wipe out her faction and put her in the punishment sphere, upside-down. Then what you do is take a mindworm, after all the blood has rushed to her head, stick it in her ear and watch her head explode. On second thought maybe that's not the best way to imp science. But hey, it sure is fun : )-Del. UoP. Where do you want to colonize today? |

BOREHOLES!!!!!!! on trancend level, your forced out of FM economics by hordes of mind worms even w\ rare lifeforms on. so your reaserch goes to hell. who cares about space elevator...by that time I can taste trancendence and I dont care much for my score. I dont know what to do LoD. Ive never won a game much before 2400. The ArchChancellor |
