I think "Bandit Kings of Ancient China" would have to be my favorite of all time. But Col and Civ got just as much play, almost. Never been much of a RTS player but liked Warcraft and Starcraft allright.I forgot about Empire and the new sensation(can you tell I like smac)Alpha Centauri. Damn then there is Master of Magic and Orion. Damn too many good ones to pick one favorite. |

KrazyJ - Thanks! I could NEVER get that game's name right. Herzogzwai rocked big time. Wanted more maps as battlefields. XCom was pretty cool, but I got tired off ALL the ground battles from time to time. Been nice to have been able to automate certain of the common recovery ops and what not. And it's combo game of RTS/TBS... so you could put it in anywhere. Railroad Tycoon and RRTII are definately RTS. Pause or go/go faster though like SimCity... Valtyr - Settlers I (AKA Serf City) was a lot of fun. I actually like it better than Settlers III. Got a big kick watching the serfs carry things around between the flags. Still run it from time to time. The only problem with it under 95/98 is you can't save the game. -Darkstar |

If were talking multiplayer, then AoE + Rise of Rome expansion is the God of all games. Ok, granted the single player sucks, but who in the hell these days actually plays single players. Multiplayer is where all the fun is, and AoE is the most fun. Go play it on the zone, there is about 3000 people for you to play it with there at any one time (not like 1 or 2 if your lucky on Alpha HQ). Possibility The God of AoE Death Match!

RTS: Virtually anything - this is my favourite realm. StarcraftBW ranks supreme, but only because of the negatives in Total AnnihiliationCC (one dimensional units, no personality, no story). The Krogoths and rapid fire plasma guns make up for it A LOT though, and I like the idea of having only 2 sides (ARM are a pack of soft boys.)However, NOTHING, in any other game, matches the sheer fun and personality of Warcraft. I love this game. TBS: Currently HOMM3, since SMAC is unstable on my current setup and CivII is old and irritating (SMAC's total cop out combat system and the lack of any decent combat graphics also irritate me - along with people who say those things don't matter). Roll on SMACX, which hopefully will address those issues (if they want me to buy it, anyway...) FPS: Half-life - incredible game. |

El Presidente: The original release of Outpost was the buggiest game I've ever seen, but then Sierra released "version 1.5" in which many bugs were fixed and it became a good game. It is also completly turn based. Outpost 2 was the real-time one, but I've never played it because real-time sucks, so I can't comment on it.Also, Emporer of the Fading Suns is based on the Fading Suns pen and pencil RPG, which I am also quite fond of. It didn't sell very well, however, so you probably won't find it in local stores. It is avaliable from some on-line stores fairly cheap, though. |

As primitive as they seem now, I still like the turn-based games from the late 80's - early 90's. Games like SSI's AD&D series (especially Gold Box series), Wasteland, Dragon Wars, Bards Tale III, Might & Magic II & III. These games are still playable. The best games have always been Sid Meier's : Pirates, Railroad Tycoon, Civ I & II, and now SMAC. |

Created many, many custom games, beat 99% of them. (the 1% was my first game or two)Went to EB and bought Brood War. Complete waste of money, beat that in 5 hours. Only six new units??? Laughable. No new AI, which was sorely needed. (SC had no better AI than Warcraft II) I'm sorry, but SC and BW rate as probably my least favorite RTS games. And what's wrong with Pax Imperia??? It's not great... the wormhole concept sucked, the diplomacy sucked, and the AI sucked, but those battles were AWESOME for a game made by such a then-small company. I'm waiting for Pax III, with 3D acceleration, intelligent AI, and more options. One RTS I want bad: Tiberian Sun. Yeah Baby! -007 The Living Daylights |

RTS: I'm not a big RTS fan, but I'd have to say either the "original" Dune 2 or Warcraft 2.TBS: Cursed be the makers of SMAC, for they have dragged the genre down in the mud. Okay it's not THAT bad... The best of all time is definately Master of Orion 2 (it can still be bought in the Microprose online store). Most of you have probably never played it, but THAT is one hell of a game. If SMAC was half the game MOO2 was and still had the Sid Meier name it would probably have been called the best game ever (MOO2 was not made by Sid). MOO2 featured pretty good graphics, were the first to introduce some of the things in SMAC, and had so many novel ideas and great stuff that it just ROCKED like Elvis Presley. |
