I have seen many complaints around this forum about the incompatibility of Alpha Centauri on varies hardware and system configuration. However, the odd thing is that my old buddy P133 computer seems to run the game quite happily, and exceptionally smooth even when no patch had been released at the time yet. I encoutered none of that slow moving, loading problems, graphic glitches etc. My system is as below: - Pentium 133 - 1.19 GB - 4X cdrom(maybe, not sure, I hardly play with the Cd on anyways) - 32 Ram - No 3d card whatsoever, bought my system way back in 1996 As you can see I don't have a top-notch computer by any means, but I seem to be able to run all the games I like: Starcraft, Civ2, Quake2, Quake, and Smac. What do you think?

I think you could run for the top 3 in my "Crappiest PC contest" But I agree with you. Although no 3D card for action games like Quake and the others is really tough (except with a tiny display like 300x200 maybe) Aredhran

Also running on P133 with 80 Meg system RAM and only a 1 meg video card...Still love the game even though it takes forever between turns.. ....got the air conditioner on full blast because those vacuum tubes get hot! OWWW!

Its nice to see that my 166 isn't the absolute minimum required. It means the 166 is not quite completely obsolete yet. |

Gotta agree - I'm on a P133 with 32 megs of RAM (though I DO have a Monster Voodoo I card), and the game runs fine for me. Sometimes the units move kind of slow, but I haven't really noticed it taking a long time between turns (even in endgame). RockGroin |

I'm on a p133 with 32M RAM and no 3D card (although I think my card's got 2M), and a 12x CD (not enough disk space to install full game). The CD player is, er, a little hitchy from time to time; I don't think it liked being shipped 1800 miles via the US Postal Orifice, as it's not really worked 100% since I got this machine. While it's true it tends to get slow later in the game, now that I've fiddled with the display options it never gets painfully slow. And the only real problem I've had has been with movies: skipping in the beginning (not always) as it loads (hey Firaxis, how about not beginning movie play until a requisite few seconds is loaded? I didn't have this problem with Sanitarium...) or the occasional skip-through which MAY be my CD player's fault rather than the game's fault. Or might be both. Anyhow, any complaints I have about the game are entirely unrelated to speed. On the other hand, I may be more patient than some people; after all, I had a 386/33 (SX!) until last May. And no sound card. |

I have no problems either with my P133, 33Mb RAM, 90Mb(gasp!) free Hd memory and a crappy 2Mb Vidoecard and 16x CD-player Ambro2000

The trick is using the low-res units. Makes all the differens.ps: The game does not benifit from 3D acceleration -Thue 133 and running fine |
