The game is not new any more Some of us, newbies just a month ago we are already experienced or even Master players. There is already a "One city challenge" going on. Here I present you with my challenge, make the fastest Transcendence vict'ry on Transcend level. The idea first occured to me after some debates about which is the stronger race. Of course this depends on many things and it's also a matter of taste but I was impressed that some people went so far as to say that even on pure research the UoP is not the best race. This challenge if taken by many will prove my point, that the UoP is in fact the best research race and the most enjoyable as well. It's a great feeling to lead technology, to have troops that can destroy a whole army, to have cities beaming with Wealth and Knowledge. Rules: Standard, custom map, not customized, Transcend level. Ironman has to be on. Blind research on/off up to you, flexible starting locations, again up to you. Spoils of war off, technology stagnation off, intense rivalry off, no unity survey (world map not visible). You can choose ANY faction. Also it is expected that you be honest and accept whichever starting position is given you. Not one hundred tries to get a super starting location. That's all. Just to spur you on I give you my score which was on M.Y. 2284. If someone beats my score I' ll be glad because it will be a motive for me to try again harder. I' m sure though that the one who will beat my score will be another UoPian. P.S. Before you complete the Ascend to Trans. please save the game.

Give me a week or two, after finals, and we'll see what I can cook up. Damn, but 2284 is still a mighty short time. |

Hi Alkis!I'm still trying now, though yours' rellie a short time. But you might want to put your game more difficult by: Using a randomized map (up to Large size only), Blind research strictly on, Fog of War on and Intense rivalry on. All the other conditions are same as those of yours. I'm playing the UoP now (agree with you that this might be the only race), and so far the fastest is only 2297. Remarks: Your game might be strictly limited to certain races coz of the research emphasis. This does not make up for replayability.

Laurens, How stupid of me. I wrote standard, custom map not customized! I meant standard RANDOM map. Fog of war was on. Blind research and intense rivalry were off. These would make the challenge even more difficult, I agree. This is a kind of revenge for me because there are some players in the forum claiming that, even on research UoP is not the best race. So, this is my way to say to them, if that's so prove it. About that game, I only had 15 bases (and I consider this a tip.) |

Have you submitted this for the HOF? I would like to see your save. Anyway, for me, the best test is to play with the Believers because of the tech handicap. My hat is off to your outstanding (bloody lucky) performance. |

Jimmytrick, I' ll send you the save in a minute. My last save was on 2277 and it was mere coincidence that I saved (A friend came by and I had to stop). From there on it's easy to achieve Trans. victory by 2284. Maybe even a year earlier. |

All I've gotten for my first attempt as the UoP is a war with Da Believers (most powerful faction since she gets to Bungle in the Jungle) and the Hive (a puny single base faction that sends an infantry every few turns like an annoying gnat).Oh yeah, Gaia is my on again, off again Pact Sis. She breaks it because I'm booming with Planned. Then the next turn she threatens me with her "2-1-2 rover pitch" and then she signs up for pact again because she's still at war with Da Believers. Of course all I've ever seen her units do is traipse around in my territory!! I've been doing all the fighting. Grrrr Morgan must be off on his own somewhere (and doing pretty well) and the PKs were wiped out early by the Spartans. I think I'll win this one, but not anywhere near 2284!!! Try, try again. SMAC n ... Ted S. P.S. Alkis, you **HATE** this game, right?? |

Hehe, I love it! More than some people who profess so. It's only that I played this game enough to realize how good IT COULD HAVE BEEN. |

Hi AlkisI definitely cannot agree with you in the point that UoP is best faction for early transcendence. I wanted to proof this with Gajans, had too much to fight, so I got about 90% of votes around turn 148. (Dipl. victory) After that game (was too easy) I promised never to play an ordinary TI-level game. Above TI-level with PK I had transcendence at 2297 (opponents where really hard! Had just a few SP's). See also my TI+ contest. ARES 7 PS: Starting position makes much more difference than faction-choice (In my opinion. Make a hot-seat game with 3 or 4 factions and see, how different they develop within 25 turns). |
