Actualy the icon for Centauri Meditation is closer to the symbol for chaos. Of course this is dependent on which symbol you're talking about. |

Ahem.A symbol for chaos? Isn't that an oxymoron? - icosahedron |

You'd think so on first glance (and yes, I noticed the symbology and was amused). But that's because people misunderstand what 'Chaos' means. It's... um...Well, you know the quote for the Hunter-Seeker Algorithm? Refer to that. |

Hail Eris! The symbol for Chaos is that from the Elric series by Moorcock. Which is really just part of his Champion Eternal mythology... The symbol was made popular through comics, graphic novels, and RPG which stole heavily from whatever they could. Sigh. I miss my original Deities and Demigods which had all the copyrighted lords of myth in it. -Darkstar |

Well, the Legends and Lore still had some cool gods and heroes... Fritz Leiber's Newhon and Arthurian Mythos come to mind... But you're right, the original D&D was much nicer. As for the Chaos symbol, I noticed it as well... brought back nice Stormbringer memories (from reading the books and playing the RPG). Aredhran

So there *is* a person that read (or reads)Moorcock on the forums (not that I ever asked )! Well, now I know (from a friend) that the Chaos symbol is used more widely than Darkstar suggests... Jythexinvok: Isn't the Yin-Yang (sp.?) symbol more a sign of Equity, as it pictures interlocking contradicions?LoD PS. My nick was (sort of) taken from Moorcock... |

Well, I ran into the symbol in Principa Discordia, the 'bible' of discordianism. It's a bitch to find a copy, though <sniff>. The relation between equality and choas is a philosophical matter. Esp with chaos science and all that muck being in vouge. I think the original idea was that discordianism admits the need for balance between order and choas, too much of either is a bad thing, so it uses the ying-yang symble. It also contains a pentagon (order) and an apple (chaos) instead of the two dots that are classicly there. |
