How Powerful do they have to get? If they creep into second place is that all that it takes? even if you are 10 times more powerful? thanks.

I know for a fact that you can piss your pact-bro off by probing the wanker just once!
They might also get pissed if you don't suppply them with techs/money

A Pact 'Brother' will turn on you if you:

* Have Social Engineering choices that conflict with his (Lal hates it when you choose the Police State social choice fo example)

* Attack him or probe him

* onepaul is right, they get the hump if you don't give them any techs or money. They ask you in two ways; pleading ('my base is in trouble') or bullying ('you are witholding information in contravention of the UN charter...blah...blah).

* Try to frame him in a probe team operation and get caught.

*Or, commit an atrocity against anyone when the UN charter is still in place (this can be voted out later)

I think that's it....

Gondor,

Are you talking about submissive pact brother/sister? I have read in a few places that submissive pact brothers will cancel if they get strong enough. Can anyone confirm?

Only time I've ever had someone who submitted to me cancel a pact was when I Planet Bustered someone (the one time I did it just to see what would happen).

I've played a full (ie. forced quit) game where I had someone submit to me REALLY early, and they never cancelled...

RockGroin (ouch),

I have had the same experience, but I have read in some newsgroup that if your submissive pact brother gets stronger than you, or if you become too weak, that they will turn on you. I have never seen this and I don't think it happens, but I can't confirm.

I suppose if you conquer someone and then they grow more powerful than you, you deserve for them to cancel their Pact.

Submissive Pact brothers and sisters will indeed cancel their pact if they THINK they are stronger than you. After all, the worse that happens to them would be some of their people die and they have to surrender. As each Factional Leader is a Crazy Psychotic out for complete and total world domination, its no skin off their chin if their people die.
