Civ III: It's alive ! It's alive !! I'm so excited. Sid Meier is going to make the best civ title ever. From the experience with SMAC, he can combine the best of both worlds. I'm just sorry for Activision and Microprose. Call to Power and ToT are going to have short lives and get lost for good in the trash bin, when Civ III comes out. |

What's this over at http://www.cdmag.com/Home/home.html?article=/articles/020/005/civ3_e3.html ??Civ III will link up with SMAC and an as-yet undefined third game so you can play from one to another... my god, PBEM would take decades! What d'you think this third title is... a MOO3, perhaps? Or maybe you get to stop/pause CivIII game about midway through and play multiplayer Pirates! on the world map, with the political situation taken from Civ? Or.. or.. save off the world map and play Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon III... Or Silent Service III based on the worlds oceans and wars again... crikey, the potential is impressive, innit? |

An old cynic here.. just bargin' in on the party to throw some cold water on the happy pile of bodies. This sort of hysteria is almost exactly what we saw 2 yrs ago about SMAC being the REAL Civ3, remember? How many of ya *STILL* think that FIraxis is committed, long term, to ironing out the existing problems with SMAC? I for one, will watch how they handle the back end customer support of *THIS* game before I send 'em another $50 for the next one. |

Have to say I agree with Druid. Firaxis has got to prove themselves with respect to supporting SMAC first. I still can't believe that they won't publish even so much as a fix list for the next patch, but I digress. And if they do a shoddy job with the multiplayer ... well, let's see how it goes! But hey, it will make for an interesting one or two years of forum posts about what to add, remove, change, etc. SMC3 n ... Ted S. |

If patch 4 fixes everything, they won't have aproblem with a shoddy SMAC being forgotten amid the CivII hype.A toast: To the past (Civ I and II) To the present (SMAC) To the future (Civ III) Glug glug glug Ahhh! Great Chardonay |

civ3 will no doubt have a connection to the SMAC universe (maybe earth survived?). |

TheHelperMonkey, yeap, it's going to be connected. You will play CivIII on earth and then after lunching your civ to Alpha Centauri, you'll be able to continue with all existing relationships, technologies, etc. At least that is what they said at E3.And the third title? (CIV IV or SMAC 2 ?, I think it'll be the second one) How else would they link this trilogy? Anyway, they better fix the first one first before the new one comes out.

Hopping on the Bandwagon here...First of all, I agree with Druid. I myself couldn't care less about Civ 3. Because, what alot people don't seem to notice is that SMAC IS Civ3. And while it's a great game, even after playing it alot I still don't get that "special feeling" that came with Civ and Civ2. And I too would like to see Firaxis finish SMAC before moving to the next game, unless they want to follow the examples of such horrible game companies as Sega and Origin. That aside, I truly hope they don't connect Civ3 with SMAC at all. Besides having to bend stories to unbelievable levels, one thing that I, personally, miss from SMAC was the good old history feel. And I would hate it if Civ3 just continued this rather bland Sci-Fi style. While I think Sci-Fi is great, it just isn't the same. It's just hard (for me, atleast) to associate with Genejack Factories and Impact Plasma Rovers. |

Jimmy, dont be sorry for Microprose. First of all the fantasy world in ToT looks excellent.Secondly, Microprose is Hasbro. Thus they are in Sid Meiers civ3. Titan. |

Titan, Agreed, ToT looks very interesting, but Microprose has also got "Startrek, Birth of the Federation" on the way... If I disappear from the forums for a while, you'll know where I am. |

I would rather they worked on something else than Civ 3. What does this do to Civ:Test of Time that Hasbro is putting out soon? And I just got Civ Gold and have tons of scenarios to go thru, this will keep me busy for a long time.I'd rather see a new game, or an update of an older game, like Master of Magic. I'd even love a decent version of Pizza Tycoon by Sid and company than civ 3. They could probably come up with a super mega-multiplayer game like Everquest or Ultima Online (but with a Civ-like game) if they put their minds to it. - Fred |

I think Sid Meier did the bewst thing leaving microprose, im not going to buy any microprose Civilzation game again. They stole the name from sid meiers. (They had legal rights) unfortunatly. |

wow.. CIV3? that's sort of funny.. does that mean it will have 3 times the bugs? If it's anything like SMAC, then it will be the home of crashes. |
