Singularity, It's not just you. Slowly doesn't cover it.

I just got it. This is pretty cool.I was in a similar thing that tried to crack RC5 encryption. IMO SETI is much more meaningful. |

Had it. It's a g r e a t idea. If a bit slow (on a 400 MHz Windoze machine.) It also belongs on the non-SMAC topics forum. I go now.

Thanks for the tip guys, Seti@Home is one of the best idea I've ever seen. Getting idle machines to do a useful task instead of running screensavers - Excellent !Every capable PC in my office is now numbercruching the seti data. Umbra1: Wondering what would happen if anyone found an ET transmission ?

I finished my first data unit in 42 hours. What's your record? |

Hmmm. You want something meaningful, doing stuff on mircolensing data (i.e the technic they use to find big planets around other stars.)Personally, SETI was a pretty dumb, hopeful idea. The odds against it are astronomical - both in terms of coverage and evolutionary cycles. SETI at home is like recycling - it's a great way to feel good about something that isn't useful and could quite possibly damage the environment. (P.S Anyone heard anything yet? Last time I checked Barnard United was 670998 up in the 576th round against Bettlegeuse. But they had a couple of injures that could have turned it in the second half...) |

I downloaded Seti@Home and have it running. Still on the first work unit. Unfortunately, I'm now torn between playing SMAC and watching the screen saver :\ |

I have it on PC's at work and the one at home. I SMAC while SETI runs in the background. Although SETI is more exciting than SMAC. |
