Just whose idea was it to include that half-baked global warming theory as a consequence in this game? Do the designers not know that the alleged warming can and has been attributed to NORMAL cyclic weather patterns? And speaking of this, can they make up their minds? In the '70s they were all hot and bothered about global COOLING!I'm glad that I can at least edit the alpha.txt file and change the sea level rise to 0!

Does this rise in sea levels always happen? I've only played up until about 2300 so I haven't seen it yet. |

Unfortunately, it does. But you can modify how much it will rise every time under the world builder section in the alpha.txt file. Unfortunately, it doesn't help a game already in progress it appears. |

Yeah, I'll most likely end up doing that-- I don't think I'll find much enjoyment in building an extensive empire and losing it all to a flood. It seems a little exaggerated in this game-- how often do we need to build an arc? If this is what happens from industrial production I think I'll start now...(And I do realize that in this game it's actually the planet fighting back) |

Yeah, but the fungus and worms I can deal with. I have to admit, when my land bases became water bases (and before it dawned on me about that text file), I hit ctrl-k and did a little "instant" terraforming. So the score thing says I cheated!! While I was at it, I increased my energy reserves. |

My text file will be altered soon. I'm also altering Lal and Morgan (in my opinion, the strongest and weakest factions, respectively)-- I find that I only play Lal because his strengths give advantages that... well, I don't want the computer to have. I don't think anyone should get those extra votes, and altogether his strengths make him invincible when I play him. I changed Morgan to my faction "genetically enhanced intellectuals" which I just posted in the factions forum for review. Lal is losing his extra talents and votes, but gaining a few other things (economy, while taking a support hit). |

The faction I play the most is the UoP. Simply because research is key in this game, and they have that advantage when you play. Gives me that edge. Then again, if I'm feeling a bit silly, I just engage the scenario editor and have at with the credits. And I tell you what, the space elevator is such a nice little special project. Drop troops all over the place. I did that to take the Neural Amplifier away from the Gaians (??). |

I like the UoP on the lower difficulty levels, but those drones kill as you go higher up. I always out-research them anyway, because my faction ends up many-many times the size of theirs, and by using Free Market my energy is also amazing, so eventually I'm researching so fast it's ridiculous. Since I don't like probe teams I use knowledge anyway, so my 20% bonus is pretty good too. The only place the university really shines is when the game immediately starts-- you can get weapons early and kill one or two factions with those particle impactors. Other than that they are overrated (as I said, on higher difficulty levels). |

Superconductor: CHEATER ! ctrl-k... You should be ashamed of yourself ! Try winning honestly, you'll find it much more rewarding (even if the AI itself cheats like hell - poor thing, it just can't match wits wit us Humans) Aredhran

Alright, Superconductor, if you are a cheater, play a real game then come back and join the forum like everyone else. I'm sorry but until then, not many people are going to listen to you. |

Superconductor, the global warming thing is a holdover from Civ2, although it had different effects there. Anyway, it's a different planet, and a different environment. I've always thought of the flooding as a sort of Planetary allergic reaction to human activity. It's hardly a threat, regardless. Just get the council to vote to launch a shade. And if you can't control the council by that point in the game, you're doing something wrong. |
