Just about six hours ago my monitor started acting cray-zeee. It constantly flickers between bright and dark, bright and dark, birght and dark, you get the idea. Also Whenever there should be black on the screen, it takes on a bluish color. Any help would nice.Dreadnought Chinese Proverb #IBB32D "Virginity like bubble- one prick, all gone."

either something is screwing with yer gamma settings (should be able to correct on display control panel under the tab that comes with yer graphics card), or something is very, seriously wrong with yer monitor/drivers/computergood luck |

How about answering this? My On/Off switch for my monitor doesn't work. Luckily it is stuck on, or I'd be doomed. The only way I can turn it off is unplugging it. I know that isn't good for long term. Any way I can get itside and fix it? |

Has your little brother been messing with the monitor? |

Is the monitor cable plugged in tightly? That can sometimes cause "monitor" problems... |

How old is it? I have an old monitor on my other PC that flickers if left plugged in (at 640x480 FFS!). John III |

John, the monitor is only about a year old, I got it with my Gateway (shudder) computer. The strange thing is it worked fine up until now.Sandworm, I dunno, maybe he put a magnet by it |

I had trouble with my Gateway monitor when I first got it, but after two or three reboots and cable checks it started working fine again. Tech support prime directive: Jiggle those two cables, and call us in the morning. |

You havnt got it near any large magnetic fields have you? You know the sort of things - large speakers, NMR scanners, particle accelerators that sort of thing?I have a monitor in the lab thats sitting next to a cable duct in the wall and that causes flickering and blueish tinge. Beta-1 |

Well Ok I dont have a NMR machine - but there was one at my old university. Believe me you would not want to put a monitor next to one. Equally I'm just guessing about particle accelerators. But electron microscopes also have sizeable magnetic fields so I would avoid those as well. Beta-1 Hasn't got a particle accelerator but is getting a confocal microscope. |

Yep, I found out what the problem is, I just don't think I can fix it. I unplugged the monitor from the puter and discovered one of the little metal prongs was bent at about a right angle. In the process on straightening it out, it, well, snapped right off. Oops. Guess I'll have to deal with the flickering for another year till I can trade this piece in..... |

I told you it was the cable. If you are handy with a soldering iron, it's not hard to replace the connector. |

In that case, you get a friend who is good with a soldering iron. |
