The game has just been released in my area and I was just wondering if anyone who has bought the game has any comments about it. I have played (and loved) the first JA. I thought it was at least as good as the X-Com series. Could someone enlighten me about the game and what its like, or if you know a site that has done a review or preview on it then could you please link it? Thank you. |

Thanks for all that. It took me ages to read through. But anyway, basically I bought the game yesteday because I liked JA1. I think the game is great, and I would recommend it to all fans of games like X-Com and Fallout. The site www.jaggedalliance.com has links to quite a few (positive) reviews. |

I really enjoy it. I think it has a wonderful strategic level that really enhances the suspension of disbelief. I love hiring medics with high leadership to be "rabble rousers", training and healing militias. The whole airspace model, while simple, really has a big impact on the game (where you can drop supplies and personnel). The merc interactions are cool as well (Nail's claustrophobia in the Kingpin's mine and the Ah-nold clone who won't work with Russians). The combat system is great fun, especially when you get the hang of it. High stealth, knife wielding night missions are a rush and pretty successful. I haven't assaulted a heavily defended base during the day since I got Raven on the team. The only real downside that I've found is the same that X-Com and Fallout and other turn based tactical games have, which is that the battles can be EXTREMELY long. The quick combat resolve have often alleivate this, but not very adequately. But hey, I just come back the next day and what was a dull, gruelling fight is now interesting and fresh. Great effort. I can't believe it almost sank with Sir-Tech. Would have been a shame. jkm firaxis games |

I haven't tried to play with the "knife at night" strategy. I will try that sometime. I prefer to hire mercs with high marksmanship and pick the enemy off from a distance. Once the marksmanship is above 90, they are very accurate. But I agree that some of the battles take an awful long time. Especially toward the end of the game when you need multiple squads to win. But I wouldn't expect anything less. The game is supposed to get harder as you go along. Though JA2 is a great remake of the first one, it lacks the interesting storyline that draws you in to Fallout and X-Com, both of which kept me playing largely because I wanted to know more about the aliens or I wanted to explore the different towns in Fallout. The towns in JA2 are basically generic and all pretty much the same. I feel they could have done more with it. But oh well. Maybe we are one step closer to the perfect game. And anyway, it kept me occupied for hours on end, which is the whole point. I am enjoying the game very much. |
