I feel bad for him and his family. Although I can't say I like the guy. And I'm already getting sick of all this news coverage. He hasn't had an impact on our country. But I'm beginning to think his family has a curse. They may have a lot of money and fame, but I don't think I would want to be a kennedy. Anybody else feel that family has a curse?

New Theory on Chappaquiddick, Ted wasn't in the car. Made up story about driving and diving to sound "gallant". Real story was that he and Maryjo were spooked at Lover's Lane by some cops. Ted told her to drive home without him so he wouldn't be spotted. She was drunk and didn't know the roads so fell off bridge. This is supposed to be consistent with her lack of injuries to the face, the passanger side was heavily damaged and glass broken. I don't buy it, but then either story doesn't paint my senior senator in a very good light. |

It's a small island next to Martha's Vineyard. You have to get there by a short ferry ride. Martha's Vineyard is a larger Island off the coast of massachusetts, many rich people summer there. |

A bit further information. Ted Kennedy drove a car off a bridge on the island while returning home from a party. In the car was a young woman, not his wife. The woman died and Ted gave a lame excuse as to what happened. |

I was just watching the local news, and they have dedicated almost half of the program to reporting about JFK Jr. I don't mean to come of as insensitve, but what did this man do for our contry to marrit such attention? He was the son of a mediocre president and he published a magazine, nothing more. Given, I do feel sympathy for the loss his all ready misofortuned family must feel, but please, save the media obsession for a citzen who truly desrves it. |

Only in America, can a tv newtork extend a 10 minute event to countless hours. Another example: when that Evil canival dick was jumping over that building, it took only about 15 seconds to do it, but FOX made it into 1 hour wroth of "quality" programming. I can just picture the Fox suits going: C.E.O: "Allright here he goes, cross your fingers boys..." vrm...vrm...vrrrrrooooomm...ehhhh...ehhhhh!!! C.E.O: "God damn it! He made it! I think that most of us here cannot understand why there is a fascination with the Kennedys in this country. Why? I think it is because most of us did not live through Camelot, the Kennedy presidency(at least no while old enough to remember it). |

I did live through it (14 years old when JFK was shot) and I still can't understand what the fuss is all about. Never could.A local talk show host this morning pointed out that except for the assassinations, all the Kennedy misfortunes have been brought on by behavior that was self-destructive or at least risky. I agree with that, but even so it does seem like their numbers come up more often than the odds warrant. I mean, how many hundreds of pilots have flown in worse weather with less experience than Junior, and made it down just fine?

The question isn't how many pilots flew in worse weather and were fine, rather, how many crashed and you didin't hear anything about them? Aside from the assassinations if you examined families over a 40 year stretch, you would probably see a lot of similar tragedies occuring. It is just that when it involves the Kennedys it's front page news. |

Unfortunatly, Misho, you inadvertaly are the prime example of government controlled media on the average citizen's mind. Most third world nations are quite bitter that the United States economy is so succesful but doesnt give massive loans to them. So, the government fills it's airwaves with anti-US propganda attempting to re-educated the unfortunate citizens of it's semi-despotic nation. Misho, I am curious to know, what exactly makes you think that the United States is so imperialistic and enfatuated with the almighty dollar. Just becuase our nation is doing so exceptionally well economy-wise donest nessecarily mean that all of it's citizens are money grubbing social climbers. Please do not knock something you do not fully understand, at least do some research first. |

Jaypegg, I was trying to re-post whatever you were posting. I looked in veiw source, and it looked as if you didnt put the " marks in there. Nevamind though.Ohwell, the way people are talking about John Jr, you would think the president died. He never did anything for America, save publishing a poor magazine. There are so many more people in America who have spent thier lives trying to make a diffrence, or trying to make the world a better place. And when they die, you will never hear about them. They won't even get a burial at sea by a destoryer . I think America's fixation on celebrrities is quite disturbing. I guess we all feel our lives are boring and worthless. [rant]AND WHY THE FUC ARE ACTORS AND ACRTESSES GETTING PAID MILLIONS OF DOLLARS PER PICTURE?!!?!?!? They don't deserve it! Neither do atheletes! They get paid to play games for crissake! When will this damn country take the time to celebrate the REAL heros out there? Such as the inner city public school teachers, who try to make a diffrence in a young student's life, but get paid next to nothing? I bet you dollars to ****ing donuts that if a scientist discovered fusion power or the Unified Field Thoery tommorow, it would still get overshadowed by this John Jr. Shit. Dread, I agree 100%. The good news is that we dont have to worry about him running for Prez some day and he didnt get to breed (AFAIK... well he may have had a few "off record"). I dont think that the average American is necessarily fixated on this crap. Its mainly the screwy media. Maybe we should give all the news/entertainment media morons a free burial at sea! Oh wait. That wouldnt work. Two reasons: 1) Crap floats. 2) Green Peace would be on our case for polluting the oceans!

It seems like they spent a lot of taxpayer dollars finding the body, after which they burned it and basically used more taxpayer money to put it back where they found it. Why? The man was a magazine publisher, known more for his relationship to JFK senior and his choice of bedmates than anything else. Being the son of a president normally does not grant you any special honors. The reason has to be the baby boomers. They see JFK jr. and remember "Camelot," and all the other pseudo-touchy-feely legend that has risen around the Kennedy administration. IMNSHO, Kennedy was a very charismatic man who was assassinated before he had the chance to publicly screw something up in a big way. Let us not forget how he cheated on his wife, or the fact that he almost caused a nuclear war. Let us also not forget the Vietnam War, which Kennedy pushed us into before Johnson went over the top with it. |

What is the big fixation on the Kennedys anyway? He was a mediocre president. The only thing I can think of is that since we don't have any royalty, the Kennedys are the closest thing to it. I think someone said that already. This is just like that Princess Di thing a few years back, but at at least she did some charity work, I think. If you think the American media is obssesed with celebrities, you should look at Britian! Just about everything the royalty does is front age news. |

In my opinion, Kennedy was not a mediocre president. He was a bad President! Let's review the highlights of his term (now remember I was not alive then so this could be distorted by misreportation of misinterpretation (I made the first of those two words up!) to me: Height of the Cold War (bad) Bay of Pigs (bad) Cuban Missile Crisis (bad, although he handled it well) And his personal life: Mob ties, or at least some shady connections The whole Matilyn Monroe affair (Do you remember that Saturday Night Live skit where Clintion had just been elected and Madonna sang "Happy Inauguration Day to You" in that same sexy voice as Marylin and Hillary was throwing a fit and threatening to leave? Hilarious!) |

It wasn't so much that he was a good or bad president(though to be fair you should also add in the thing he did that were good: cut the top income tax bracket from 94%, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was his(he just didn't live long enough), the space program; I also think it's a bit false to blame the cold war on him) but that he was a president that appealed to the public and was assasinated before the scandals really came out. |

He wasn't blaming the cold war on JFK. He was just saying the cold war was at it's worst during his administration. Although I feel this is not JFK's fault. He was a strong president and that was what we needed at that time. A lesser president would have let the soviets build as many missles as they wanted in cuba. But I don't think he was a great president though. I'll never understand america's fixation with him and his family. |

Or a weaker president would have invaded Cuba, triggering a nuclear war(Soviet forces had operational tactical nukes that were effectively under the control of the commander on the scene; you think he wouldn't have dropped a couple at the beachhead and Guantanamo for good measure?).And I meant blaming the state of the nuclear war on him(though campaigning on the nonexistant missile gap probably didn't help a while lot, but this was completely understandable based on unclassified info from the time). |
