IMHO, if you play computer games more than 1 hour per day on a daily basis, you are a computer games addict. So my question is: What is your problem? What are you trying to escape from in your life?

Personally, I'm trying to escape from people like you...

Why do people think that those of us with hobbies are trying to "escape" from anything? Turn it around; are those who spend their free time going to movies and watching TV trying to escape from computer games?

"realility is for those people whom can not deal with science fiction"

in this context is is
" realility is for those whom cant handle SMAC "

Jar Jar, you must think you're smart?
Right? You think you are smart?
Well you are not.

I think he's smart. With an innovative name like jarjarstinx how could he not be. Hopefully my sarcasm works this time.

I play smac to escape the terrible music and tv programs. That's it.

Hullo there ill be the first to admit im adicted to PC startegy games. I like to call myself a Hardcore PC Stategy Gammer. it has a sort of ring to it and it sounds better than freak, loser, and nerd. There is a difrence but thats a diffrent topic. But dont you think you exagerating a bit when ya say only an hour. What about 4 to 5 hours on a regular basis??? i play mostly as a way of realing my anger. if i released it on the pysical plain there would be a alot more school shootings and for some odd reason teachers tend to frown on that sort of thing. (and im trying to escape form the BLUE BUNNIES in the conner stareing at me. its not working!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

There's nothing wrong with playing games more than 1 hour. I'm not some pu**y game geek. I'm intelligent, employed and physically fit. I do this as a relase (Esp. Q2) and it fills the time when I'm not doing anything at 2:00 in the morning...

I'd hardly call 1 hr a day an addiction. If you get fired from your job because you spend every minute at work playing games, then you're an addict. If you don't sleep for a week due to game playing, then you're an addict.

I'm addicted to eating then I'm sure I spend at least 1 hr per day doing that.

Oh yeah and I must be one of the biggest sleeping addicts around.

Computers can do much more frames per second than real life.

Dinosaurs love to come up with facts about "computer addicts". Most of them are probably just scared by technology they don't understand.
People were just as scornful when motion pictures were first invented. They were considered silly, just for the poor and ignorant to amuse themselves with. Gradually, the best films came to be accepted as art. One day the best video games will be too.
I don't know where people get off trying to make us feel that having an interest in video games is something to be ashamed of. If I spent all day at a game like chess, no-one would blink. But if I spent all day at a much tougher strategy game like SMAC I'd be called a weirdo.
Lastly, how can you call someone an addict at one hour a day? I've heard storys about people doing nothing but eating, sleeping and playing games. The UK Quake 2 champion once ran up a 1,000 pound phone bill playing online Q2.

I know someone who (allegedly) spent 32hrs non-stop playing Q2. The most I did at any game was 6, with CM97/98.

Hmmm, how did that freaking half get there just in half on the half of the left space that has been left before the word half in the comma divided meaning of the name of the game named Half Life? Hmmm(again)

Couse you're not allowed to kick the monitor

I kick my monitor all the time, but usually I kick the computer. Especially when miriam declares war for no good reason.

I once spent 10 solid hours on one turn of Civilisation 2. I captured 126 citys! He went from the largest force on the planet to a wimp! His counter-attack was pathetic!

Did you hear about that guy who keeps his old 386 to vent his computer rage on. Apparantly he's always throwing it around.

I once played 3 days of Settlers I without turning off the game. I think I slept a total of 4 hours or something. It was a huge map, so when I woke up the enemy still hadn't caught up with me! And I had enormous amounts of lumber and wheat. Not to mention coal...

What bugs me is those "professionals" like Thresh (a.k.a. Dennis Fong) who spend six hours a day practising Quake 2. I'd love to enter a competition but I only play for fun. The average player has no hope against these fanatics.
