Topic: A Goog Reason for Lurking?

I deem myself a lurker and by the sounds of it (from reading posts about lurking)it is frowned upon. Therefore it seems necessary to explain myself.I do not (sigh) have a computer (sniff) of my own (whimper) to play SMAC on (cry) But I do have a (shy) 486 that I play Civ2 and surf the net on. So, I can lurk but I dont have any updated information to add or to ask of. But, I do Travel (to the ends of the earth if I had to) to my Step-Dads place (45 min) once a week to play till the sun come up. Then, as you might have guessed, considering a rash of posts from me, I post. Now, I go back home (sigh) and Lurk.

The down on lurking is that it doesn't help keep a forum afloat, but don't let it worry you. It's not a crime. But you're reason for not contributing IMO doesn't hold water. On the Off-Forum you can add to, or start threads dealing with any topic. You don't need a whizzy computer playing SMAC. Just a bit of confidence, and the ability to ignore any possible criticism. |

GaryD: "You don't need a whizzy computer playing SMAC" Have you tried to play it on a 486...even install it...let me help you out..it does not work. "Just a bit of confidence" How do you gain confidence if you have no means of gaining it?about the other thread..I soon ralized after posting it in the stratagies section that it does not belong there...(if there is a way to rem it I will) You are right on that confidence point though. Now that I am gaining a Bit of confidence through experience, I can venture forth to post elsewhere...but it all comes down to my original reason for not posting...as I`m sure is the same for most if not every lurker out there...not enough exp. |

Sector7G: I think you missed the point. What I say trying to say was, you don't need a whizzy computer playing SMAC in order to post on the forum.Oh, and as you seem to now realise, you gain confidence by posting something uncontroversial to start with and seeing what reaction you get. Then taking it from there. I don't believe there is any way of erasing something posted in these forums, but it is no big deal. If it stimulates replies then it has done its job. If it doesn't, it'll drop off the bottom of the screen before long, like most of my threads do Anyway, welcome on board.

Come as you are, do as you please. Don't worry about lack of experience - there is hardly anyone here left to laugh at you anyway DCA, Cthulhu for president. |
