Yep, another convert... allthougth I admit there is a partition prepared on my harddisk in case I should ever fell the need to install some of Bill's programs again
I do miss IE however. Netscape doesn't do anything but create bus errors(but at least that doesn't chrash the OS as IE sometimes do with WIN9X), and the interface sucks.

But then there are the nice new programs in Linux; The command promt is superior, thue gui(KDE) is smarter than WIN9X,emacs rules , the linux civ clone(freeciv) has open source, so you can modify to your hearts content
And it is all totally free!

I used Redhat 6.0 - primarely because it came free with a computer magazine(which was itself ~10$)'
On the CD there was a manual too

It was pretty easy to install (easier than the time I installed win95!), but internet was pretty hard to set up, and it still doesn't work rigth

Heh. I use Debian 2.1 myself.

Which part of the internet isn't working yet?

I haven't gotten my ftp downloader to work, and I am a little at a loss as to how pine is configured. I haven't tried that much thougth.
The modem was difficult to set up not because of the programs, but because I didn't know much about how the internet worked, and the manual sucked .
There wasn't any usable manual with the modem or from the ISP either.

It really helped to install the upgrade RPM for netscape I think - I haven't had any crashes or mysterious error since I did (On places I would normally have). But 15 minuttes is a little low for statistics

Oh - and I converted to GNOME again. I started with GNOME, switched to KDE, and now back to GNOME Enligthenment(it got upgraded too)

The RPM package install and upgrading system absolutely rules. Just say install or upgrade or upgrade and consider it done. It checks if needed components are installed and lots of other things. Superior to Windows by far.

I forgot: Netscape email was more familiar, configuring it took only 5 minuttes.
I suppose I am a little UNIX-illiterate.

Just takes a bit of getting used to.

Yeah, the packaging systems in Red Hat and Debian make installing and upgrading much easier than in Windows.

The online docs work the best for me, particularly the HOWTOs.

My home system has 3 OS partitions: Win3.11/DOS, Win95, and Linux (Red Hat). My development system at work is running Windows NT. I have a copy of Windows NT Server that I am going to set up at home if I ever have any free time. Free Time what the H***s that?

I'm running Slackware 3.3 on my Linux box, which is my old 486. I use it for simple programming experiments.

I also have a Win95 machine (K6 233) and my old DOS machine, all three of which are hooked to a monitor switch. I also have my ol' trusty Apple ][.

And you know which one I use the most? The Apple ][.
