Ahh yes, what would life be without Kids in the Hall.anyone watch SCTV? That is classic comedy! Oh and us Canadians, what do we do on Canada Day? well most of us like to pretend and think how we are a great country, and a 'world player' Essentially it's just like the $th of July, minus the legal fireworks. Well, for Canada Day, I went to Ottawa (Canada's capital, for all of you who are "Ottawa, Where's that?", and no, Canada's capital is NOT Toronto, for all of you saying "Canada's capital is Toronto!". That's Ontario's capital). They set up a stage on Parliament Hill and had a bunch of Canadian performers do a free concert/show. Anyone in Ottawa was allowed to attend - do *THAT* in any other country! I mean, have thousands of people partying on the lawn of the building that houses the country's legislation. I was about two blocks away (across the Canal) in Major Hill Park (which is just in front of the new US Embassy). For those of you who don't know Ottawa, the back of the parliament buildings faces a cliff over the Ottawa River, and the side has a large hill down to the Canal. Majors Hill Park is up a hill/cliff on the other side of the canal, still facing the Ottawa River. The canal at this time is a series of locks that bring the water down to the level of the Ottawa River. There was a free concert at Majors Hill Park all day (an hour for each band) and the 9-10PM was Big Sugar (they rule). At 10 they had fireworks (over the Ottawa River). Then everyone went to the bars in the Market. It was an intensely hot day (30 C plus for most of the day) but it started to really rain at about 830 PM. It was really cool. I spent the day painting red "x"s on people, 'cause I can't draw a maple leaf. I was doing it for free, and got about 600 people (I had permission from all of them). Just goes to show the fun you can have with a can of kindergarten paint. Of course I had my face painted with a maple leaf, and made a brief television appearance. It's just a matter of sticking out. By the end of the night all my clothes were red from the paint washing off my face and so on. But ya - that's Canada Day. |
