I just got the game, and i have to admit. It's the best fuc*ing FPS ever made.

The graphics are on a level not seen so far (maybe quake3, which is a bit cartoon like though), bullets reflect from walls and the light effects are on the highest level. I don't know which 3d engine this is, but it's either a VERY advanced ver of Unreal or a new one made specialy for this game.

But, the main thing that amazed me is the gameplay. You het three characters you can control: The Marine, predator and the Alien(the one from the movie-also the coolest one )

Playing the marine is almost the same experience you'll get by playing Half Life, only the levels have a very distinctive atmosphere, not seen in a game so far. But, you get the motion detector that we have seen in the Alien part 2.

Playing the Predator is similar to the gameplay you get by playing the Marine, only you get all new Predator weapons(i hope you remember them from the movie-the disc and all that), and you get the Cloaking mode (invisibility-also present in the movie), the screen while playing this character is all garbaged with those alien letters and you can change different view modes (infrared, ultra-violet etc.).

And the best character here - The Alien!
By playing the Alien, you get a view displaying the so called fish-eye camera(this is when you set a camera to a 290+ degrees Field-of-View), You have no weapons, but you get to climb wherever you like, walls, ceelings, structures...only the roof is the limit You can move throught the vent shafs and watch that surprised-terrified look on the marines face when you jump on him from a ceeling of a dark room. And when a marine bitch shoots you from a close range...hehe...just watch him melt in your acid blood

The multiplayer is ultimate shoot, watch, hey, where is he(it)? no, not me, wait!, huh, i never thought the predator had organs
In multi mode, you can play games in which you can have two marines deathmatching two aliens...and stuff like that. It's crazy!

If anyone else had a chance to play this game, i will be delighted to exchange experience. Ahh..yes, one more thing, for playing this game, you need a high end system, or just forget about what i just wrote.

I got this from PCGAMER's preview of the game.
And i like it, I like it a lot

quote:
Still, the most enjoyable game is played from the Alien perspective. These bastards are fast, and their field of vision is slightly skewed for a more surreal visual experience. Best of all, the Alien can climb walls, creating an almost Descent-style movement mode where you can drop from ceilings onto unsuspecting prey.

The Aliens main opposition comes in the form of enemy soldiers and auto-turrets. Sometimes, youll find a handful of unarmed scientists moping about, who will scream bloody murder and run like hell whenever they spot you. Like all good movie monsters, the Alien eats brains, says Stalker. Basically, if youre close enough and lined up right, you can use the infamous jaw attack on enemies, taking off their heads and giving yourself a significant health boost in the process. This works best on live prey, where youll receive a greater buzz, but it also works on corpses. Think of it as dinner versus a snack.

hehe Still haven't had a chance to do the snack...well...i have the game for only a couple of hours, so i have a great apetite

This is a screenshot of the alien's view.

Are there just three caracters in a level or is it just that you can pick from 3 different caracters? When you pick a player in the game is there more than one of it?

Pinko34, the game is set up that way that in the beggining you create your personal profile, with nick and all that. Then you access the main menu. By clicking on single player game you get to choose from the three characters i mentioned. Every character has a different storyline and levels attached to it, and as i have read somewhere, for the first time in FPS, all the in game settings, enemies and tools/accesories are randomized each time you start a new game. So if you get killed on a level, don't expect everything to be the way you left it. The AI is awsome. Still can't get far on the Marine character...those alien bastards are making me fall into deep paranoia when i roam through those darks corridors.

Hiting the multiplayer is a whole new story, with a stroyline which i don't feel like explaining right now. Tommorow maybe

The engine is Rebellion's own, and the graphics aren't that good.

The characters are exceptionally detailed and well-modelled, especially the Aliens.
The levels are, for the most part, bland and uninspiring, but what saves them is the myriad of special effects like coloured lighting, reflective surfaces, video screens, etc.

AFAIK, the characters have a scissors-paper-stone food chain.

Alien eats Predator.
Predator slaughters Marines.
Marines kill Aliens.

This is not always true, obviously, but it is at last available in the UK so I am looking forward to trying out the Minigun

The levels aren't randomised, but the enemies are, so it isn't like Quake, where once you know the levels and monster placing you can run through with your eyes closed.

Also, what are the "PredAliens"? they sound really crap.

JohnIII, hey, if you try playing it with a RivaTNT+VoodooII Monster on a 1024x768 24bit with all efects on the game will look as if it is with the best graphics ever seen, isn't that true? The predator interface sucks though.

Yup, you're right, they didn't spend time at all in thinking of a good scenario for the levels(like they did on HL) but the gameplay is sooo good that you forget about that real fast

The 'food chain' note: i realy prefer eating marines better then eating the predator while playing like alien. I find it realy cool jumping on scientist from a 60feet high cealing, but you have to be tremendously fast to do it on the predator, couse if you play on 100% game speed, the alien and the predator are moving like rockets, and you see in battles is like lines(screamings, hits, blood lurking) and if the marine gets involved-flame!

PredAliens?!? huh, sounds like a pregnant bitch!

You play any game with "a RivaTNT+VoodooII Monster on a 1024x768 24bit" and it'll look effing marvellous.
I heard about the PredAliens from a game guide to it, never seen them myself. The Marines kill Aliens soooo easily with the Smartgun or Pulse Rifle if you know where they are. The Predators have problems because of their lack of rapid-fire weapons which are essential to counter the Aliens' speed.

'if you know where they are'

But, to compensate for the lack of rapid firing weapons, the Predator has some quite destructable weapons, which easily turn the aliens into a pile of green shlt in matter of nanoseconds.
hey john, you got AvP? Wanna multi?

JohnIII, do you have this??

My experience is a little bit different:

A: The PredAlien Kicks Ass!! It is probably the best moddeled of all of them.

B: When ever I'm playing Multi, it is always:
Alien kills Marine
Marine kills Predator
Predator kills Marine
The Smartgun tracks slowly, so it won't keep up with an Alien if it's moving at top speed. When using the Minigun, you can't move, if you try to move, it kicks up. The marine will kill the Predator with the Smartgun because the Pred won't move very fast.
The Predator controlls the ULTIMATE Anti-Alien weapon, the Pistol. Just aim it at the Alien's feet, and you will kill it in one shot, and almost never miss.
The Alien, like the Predator, won't easily be seen by the Marine. It also has the ability to climb on walls, which makes it very difficult to hit with marine weapons. It will, however, stick out very easily on the Predator's Alien Vision, making it all the easier to kill.

Also, when talking about the PredAlien, I was actually referring to it's validity in the storyline, not the modelling.

The PredAlien, IMO, works in well into the Predator Campaign, but in the Marine Campaign, just seems like an extra, meaningless, fight.

You think it looks nice? What are you running it at? Looks absolutely amazing at 1600x1200, 32-bit colour, but the text is VERY hard to read then

And to settle the 16 bit vs 32 bit arguement (Voodoo3 vs TNT2), there is most deffinitely a difference.

I'm not surprised. Horribly coded. Lot's of bugs, unstable multiplayer from my experience (crash out of game within 5 minutes)

The problem with the AvP Multiplayer is MPlayer!! I can't believe that Rebellion would allow such a horric attrocity as MPlayer to curse their otherwise magnificint game!! Also, ther is no dedicated server support

Yes, MPlayer sucks. When playing with predator, I find only usable weapon the disc, and MAYBE plasmacaster. Wristblade is totally useless, speargun is sniper weapon, so there is no use for it in MPlayer (Yes, I'm a sniper man (rail & FOV 30 ), but I still can't use it).

Anyway, it's still GREAT game in singleplayer.

ZyXEL- How can you snipe with the railgun (I'm assuming your talking about Q2)? Is there a zoom option I'm not aware of? Maybe it's just because I suck at that game....

PC Gamer UK gave it 90 something I think they said it was the hardest FPS they'd ever played but they liked that.
ZyXEL posted 07-16-99 02:30 AM ET     Click Here to See the Profile for ZyXEL  Click Here to Email ZyXEL
Dreadnought: Yes, I'm talking about old, prehistoric Q2. FOV(field of view) is normally 90. If it's bigger, you get "fish eye" view. If it's smaller, you get magnifying view, or (kind of) sniper.
Using bind command in console (bind key action) you can have very handy sniper in Mplayer.

If I'm playing Q2 (and I'm not playing it), I play it ONLY in MPlayer. I've played in single a bit, and IT SUCKS. It's only good for MPlayer.

Mother****** son of a *****.(flame suit on) I am just sooo dissapointed in this game. I have deleted it 10 days ago, and am re-playing Half Life for the tenth time. I found the lack of storyline in it to be a very lousy push factor, so I just went back to Mr Freemen. Sorry fellas. (flame suit off)

I forgot. DN, do you play it on a cinema screen in 1600x1200? I cannot imagine qa higher res then 1024x768, all above that will mess up your eyes. Yep, will do that.

Concerning VC's. Riva TNT2 is the lord of professional 2d/3d graphics, Vujudududu3 is..errr..aaa...something like a card blah spam..just forget about it...
