Let me make things clear:

Soccer
Representation: No medals in recent years (but had several fruitful wars)
Teams: Red Star: World, European Champs '91
Partizan: World, European (way back, couple of times)

Players: They have their players in all of the greatest soccer teams!
Mijatovic (Real Madrid)-European #1 (ex that is)
Stankovic (Lazio)
Mihajlovic (Lazio)-Best Libero in the world
Savicevic (AC Milan legend) Not playing already a year
Jugovic (Atl. Madrid-now Internazionale i think
Kovacevic (somewhere in germany)
Ognjenovic (Real Madrid)

And a whole bunch of others i can't remember at the moment.

Basketball
Representation: World, Europian Champs, For couple of years already, and seem to continue the tradition this year in France.
Partizan: European champs.

Players: Won't number them by name, but: Have 12 players in the NBA, and all of the others are in the Europe's finest: Kinder, Efes Pilsen etc.

Waterpollo
Representation: World, european Champs.
Don't know more about this...but..they're strong here too.

HandBall
Representation: Ex World, European Champs. Now in third place.
Have the best player in the world now: Perunicic

Volleyball
Representation: World, European Champs. (ex)
Worlds best player: Nikola Grbic, Serbian.

Tennis
Monika Seles is serbian
The new surprise chick at rolland garros this year is serbian.
And some older i don't care mentioning.

Ping Pong
Right behind china

Shooting
World champs in women category.

I can go on counting but i think i'll stop here
Remind me if i forgot some important sports.

So what is the thing here? Are they realy this good? Or are they treatening to genocide all if they don't let them win?

Perhaps the large government funding of some sports is part of the reason.

And Partizan Belgrade has never won a European or World club cup. However, they did lose to Real Madrid in the 1966 Champion's Cup final in Brussels.

Some of your football players are/were marvelous players. Savicevic' performance at the 1994 Champion's Cup final was tremendous! Dragan Stojkovic was very talented, if a bit uneven (was he Serb?). What a team Yugoslavia would have had in the 90s were it not for the break-up!

As for the other sports mentioned I don't know enough about them.

Stojkovic, i completely forgot about him...he has creativity rarely seen in players...but he's old now...and went to Japan. Savicevic was called The Genius by the italian tiffosi. And he's personaly my favourite player of all times.

Partizan won one European champ i think...in the 30's or maybe later...i'll have to check and see about that...And i have to dissagree about the goverment founding sports...You'd be amased to find out in what conditions these sportsmen realy work.

And yes, Valtyr you realy amazed me with this post In the 90's YU had the best team ever seen walking the football fields...this counts for all of the other sports. But, what happened happened. Sh*t.

And i am not from Serbia, as you have indicated in your post, although i draw roots from there...from my fathers side.

Lithuania will make these losers bleed in the finals of Eurobasket!!!

But silver is good for them, too. They ARE a very good team. But they'll bleed anyway.

How could you miss out the great Savo Milosevic?
But seriously, I think Mijatovic should have turned out to be a world-beater, not the Macmanaman he is now (OK that's a bit harsh).

Saras, i am writing this while watching the Italy-Litva game, and i must say that this year Litva is up to the goal. But, i am not sure they'll have much luck against YU this year, since Divac is playing(although Djordjevic is not here) and that kid Lukovski is going to make Karnisovas cry like a baby while watching him dance around his inert corpse. And, do you remember that realy cute dunk Danilovic made on the last european champ. flying over Sabonis like Jordan in his best days

JohnIII, i find Savo to be the laziest and most stubborn players in the YU team, which can be proven by seeing him chicken out of the Premier League (apparently looking for clearer skyes)
Mijatovic was one of the greatest few years ago...but he turned into a hillbilie, and ever since has been playing like a bitch. But now with the new haircut has made just a bit better man then he has been and hopefully will improve his performance greatly.

Mikaele - have you perchance seen Yugo beaten up by Russia just before Lithuania(not Litva, goddamnit)-Italia? I'd say the lack something that makes a champion.

Karnisovas cry like a baby while watching him dance around his inert corpse

Karnisovas will kill that prick and eat his bones !!!

Saras, YU(not Yugo-that's a model of a YU car) has played the game against Russia without a playmaker the entire second half. And i think it was a strategy move letting the kozaks win so easy...the time will say it's words

And that Litva-Italia game was pretty good, i must admit...but, as usual, you have to learn to lick the floor in different ways, othervise it wouldn't be any fun

The Yugoslavia-Lithuania game in the finals will be even better. I'd say we'll win 78-63.

Ok, let's talk reason here, Liva has a good team this year, but as usual, YU has the most experienced and the most provocative players. I suppose that IF Litva gets to the finals, by passing Russia, which is i think the best game will se here, will be destroyed by the YU representation, even though they have a pretty weakened team this year. My guess on the finals is either a extremely high score (110-102)-becouse Litva is verry agressive and won't lie and wait for the score, or a extreamely low score (56-54), becouse both teams are good, and a excelent defense game will be seen.

Russia, despite the fact that they beat YU, are not a *team*. I've read reports of very bad relations within the team, and their performance is very unstable. However, let's talk reason. Lithuania this year is probably the best in history. At the core of team we have the EuroLeague champions Zalgiris (the best tuned team I've seen outside NBA)+ Sabonis, the best ever foreigner in NBA (yes, better than Divac, Djordjevic and even Petrovic) plus Karnisovas (TeamSystem) and a host of other VERY good young players.

What does YU have? A bunch of old people

Yes, this year, as i sad before, Litva are up to the goal. But, that ugly frogger Sabonis is NOT the best ever foreigner in NBA. Have you ever heard of Drazen Petrovic? He would have, if he hadn't died in a plane accident, been Jordan's main competitor for the title Best NBA player of all times. And maybe even Kukoc (Bulls) is better then the poor basterd named Sabonis. Karnisovas is ok, but not what i would call an exceptional player.

YU has a very young team this year, compared to the years before. The oldies are Divac, Tomasevic and maybe Topic. But the rest are with an average of 22 years, and that's not what i would call old.

Did you see the YU-Nazi game today? This is just a small percent of what the YU team can give, if they just decide to play. And i bealive they'll find it worthed to spank those poor souls in the Litva team

YU-GO-SLAVIJA!! YU-GO-SLAVIJA!!

Oh well, now I look completely stupid. Absolute idiot. And our team sucks. I will have to go drink lots of vodka. And beer. And then puke it out. There is no God.

Check your facts (I can get at you, at least there)

And don't call our national hero a bastard! Basketball is a religion in Lithuania, so you might get some fundamentalists seeking you out, with knives.... BOOOOO!!!!

Hey saras, I went to the link you posted and you know what i discovered?

quote:
Sabonis received 26.2 percent of the vote, outdistancing the late Drazen Petrovic (17.9 percent), three-time NBA champion Toni Kukoc (14 percent) and Hawks' great Dikembe Mutombo (12.4 percent)

Hey, Drazen is in second place and he's been dead for 10 years already!! As i sad...if he hadn't died...oh well.

And this is not professional decision but it's a internet voting process, which means that you went to the woting page and kept pressing on the button for sabonis for couple of days

MiKaeLe
If just Drazen was here yesterday...DAMN ITALIAN BASTERDS!
