No, not your favorite movie, the movie with the best ending.I'm going to have to say The Godfather. The last few scenes are pure poetry, which I won't spoil for those who haven't seen the movie. Who woulda thought that the mob made epic tragedy?

Point of order. Casablanca ends with Rick and Louie walking off into the mists with Rick saying "Louie, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship" Nit pickers R Us Still one of the best endings, middles and beginnings of any movie ever made. |

Still one of the best endings, middles and beginnings of any movie ever made.Seconded Ill have to go with the ending of "Bladerunner" (Directors cut), or the ending of that Jimmy Cagney movie where he stands on top of a oil cistern (?) and shouts "Top of the world, Ma !" (Was it called "Public Enemy Nr 1" ?) Bishop |

Favourite endings (in this order)1. The Usual Suspects (Transforms a mediocre movie into a 1990s classic) 2. Some Like it Hot ("But by gods, I'm a man!", "Well, nobody's perfect!") 3. A Fish Called Wanda (Wonderful end...) |

Trading Places"I bet that we could make ourselves rich, while putting you in the poor house!" Lost World Silly movie, and the very end was kind of lame, but watching the T-Rex romp through Frisco was worth the price of admission (especially the lady driving backward in the BMW). The Maltese Falcon Sam Spade single-handedly changes the ending of the film for everybody. |

Raven of Despair, Yes that is a great movie with many memorable moments. Although not the final scene of the movie, Capt. Kong's last ride will always be my favorite. "Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaa!" (BOOM)

With Dr. Strangelove though, I always prefered the shot of Slim Pickens riding the bomb out of the B-52... Hilarity. |

Hey, as far as endings go, how can you beat nuclear war?Yup, that bit with Slim Pickens is great, but I really like General Buck Turgeson. (Sp?) Played by George C. Scott. He is hilarious. I also groaned when I realized the pun in "General Jack T. Ripper." It took me a minute. And President Merkin Muffley, what a name. BTW, do any of you know what a merkin is?

"Don't look now". The first time I saw the end scenes I started choking through holding my breath. I have never seen anything so traumatic and horrific in any other film.

Call me a romantic (but not a New Romantic - I couldn't cope with the hair style) but the one that gets me every time is the ending of 'Guns of Navaronne'. When the ships hooters start, if puts a lump in my throat. Noisy - desperately seeking a new tag - |

How about the end of "High Noon" when Gary Cooper just looks around without saying a word and throws his star in the dirt and rides off. Simple, but powerful.Or what about the end of "Star Wars". Again, no words, just a simple, emotive scene as Leia rewards the brave. One more. The end of "Raiders of the Lost Ark", where the Ark is placed in the huge warehouse completely full of similar boxes holding God knows what. |

"The Conversation", "Dr. Strangelove", "A Clockwork Orange", "Vertigo", "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover", I'm sure there are more films with great endings, but these are enough for now. |

I just rented that movie but haven't watched it yet. Holy sh*t. Peeeeeeple. Unbelievable. I loved the SNL parody of that. I haven't watched to many classic movies. So I can't comment on them. But I loved the ending of Platoon. Still one of my all time favourite movies. |

I can't believe nobody has mentioned "The Full Monty".As for my favorite ending, I'm at a loss. There are so many: Robocop ("You're fired!") The Life of Brian The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly The Full Monty Saving Private Ryan Star Trek V (The movie was a LAME LOSER, but the ending was cool: "What does God need with a starship?") Pulp Fiction Das Boot Among my favorite endings these were mentioned by others earlier in the thread: Soylent Green Dr. Strangelove Blade Runner Raiders of the Lost Ark Still good, but a bit overrated: 2001 The Highlander A Clockwork Orange |
