Just as Bilbo Baggins disappeared on his eleventeenth birthday, I fear I must depart from these forums. Or at least just lurk and not post. Or failing all that, only post in the Securities & Economics and related threads during the evening and weekends.

The sad fact is that these forums take up too much of my time during the week while I am at work. At a minimum, I am shirking my duties to my employer. At a maximum, I am wasting everybody's time through inane and pointless posts. I must face the facts. I am an addict and it's best to make a clean break. My > 7 post/day average makes these facts unavoidable.

I can be reached by e-mail, of course, and will still haunt the Firaxis company forums and Apolyton Civ 3 threads. Also, I have some research to summarize on the "Who Owns Firaxis" thread in The Game SMAC forum.

It has been a pleasure posting with all of you and locking horns with many of you. We may meet again in other forums in the future. Please remember my good attributes and suppress all memories of the less-than-pleasant. I have enjoyed my time here immensely.

With that introduction, I must go.

Ive been feeling the same way and I got no where near 1000 posts.

Good bye... (wipes tear from eye)

And another one bites the dust...

Dan: You do know that others have tried (and failed) before, don't you?

Good luck.

So long pal!

And damnit! He registered 02-09-99, at least three months after me, and he already transcended!

Hi DanS,
How does it feel to be one of the great ones? I'll get there, some day.
Anyway, I'm still at the party at your house waiting for Dan Magaha to show up.
Check out his picture, he looks like trouble to me.
While you are out, could you pick up some more beer and chips? We'll take up a collection when you get back. (snicker)

Can I have the ring now, Dan? I'll just leave it here on the mantelpiece and I won't touch it...oh, what do you know, it's in my pocket...

Bye Dan. After making nice-nice to your employer with some work, be sure to resume coming back, even on off-hours. See you around.

Sad, very, very sad...

Hey, I'll try to find a work related topic for you... just that I don't know too much about pesticide analysis... darn!

Roland: God, what country are you from, obviously one where the majority of the people are illiterate. Ever heard of J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit?

Know Tolkien, but the hobbit and Bilbo ? No...

Also, I strongly object to being identified with the majority... and don't call me "God"!

The Hobbit was the prequel to the Lord of the Rings, and it actually came out bfore the Lord of the Rings.

Bilbo is Frodo's uncle, the party at the begining of the book (Lord of the Rings) is for him. He uses the ring to vanish.

Actually, the party has four purposes:
1) To celebrate Bilbo's eleventy-first birthday.
2) To celebrate Frodo's coming of age, at 44.
3) To say goodbye to the Shire.
4) To give Frodo the Ring.
