Anyone here is using a cable modem, what about TCI@Home service? Anyone (not)happy with it? I'm thinking of switching to such a "stuff", they say it's pretty damn fast.

It depends, both the cable modem deal, and Bell(th company that does all of the phone service for canada) are offering some great deals. The new thing that bell offers is supposed to be extremely fast, as well as unlimited hours, and being able to take phone calls while on the net(this is nessesary since with the new thing you are always hooked up to the net, whether or not your computer is hooked up, in other words turn on your computer, plug into a phone jack, and you are on the net, no dialing up) for only 39.95, and modem rental is free. The cable deal will have to be better for me to take that. |

I have a cable modem, have had it for years. In fact I can hardly remember how it was like to surf the net with that old fashioned dial-up connection My modem isn't as fast as my old one was though. Only 256k while my old cable modem had 10mb. With the old one I many times downloaded demos etc.. with the incredible downloading speed of 130kbps(I downloaded a 80 mb demo in 5 minutes )!! Whit my new one I can only sometimes reach up to 60kbps(so slow, so slow ), but compared to the average dial-up connection I'd say it's still pretty fast I pay 270Skr a month(~31USD) and no other payments!! I can surf the net 24 hours a day -> 7 days a week -> 4 weeks in a month without any extra payments VIVA LA CABLEMODEMS

I'm definately jealous of cable modem users. I'm stuck here in redneck country with a connection of 26400 bps. They say it's a 56k connection, but I can get no where near that. |

Here's another reason why I want to live in Sweden. Bloody damn scandinavians, they all have a computer each and all of them are on the net. |

Picker, I serched fro the best Internet deals in Quebec, and I found that cable-modems are cheaper than ASDI (the new Bell connection that run at 1 MB/s). 1. Cable-Modems are faster. (10 MB vs. 1 MB) 2. 39.99$ vs. 29.99$ + 9.99$( modem rental) if you have cable TV. 3. Initial payments of 200 $ vs. 0$ or 200$ and you sctratch the additionnal 9.99$ per months. Titan. |
