Ok, while reading the NY Times today, I saw a report that said that Queen Elizabeth had created Prince Edward earl of Wessex. I think that this makes Edward the first earl of Wessex since the Norman Conquest. (The last being one of Harold's relatives after he assumed the crown.) Anyone care to confirm that? Unfortunately I don't have any reference books handy.
