I could never understand why they invested so much in that business (the business model didn't make sense) and am glad it died. |

You would buy the DIVX disk and then pay a fee each time you wanted to play it. Stupid idea IMNSHO |

You do. In europe. It's called "local call rates". The point is, we have no alternative. VIDX had to compete with DVD... |

The idea behind DIVX was that it was a rental that you didn't have to return. You'd pay a few bucks to buy the disc, which you could then watch as many times as you wanted to for 48 hours. After that, you could throw the disc away, or pay a few more bucks for another 48 hours of viewing, or pay the full price to get unlimited viewing. My main problems with it were privacy issues (your machine phones in all the movies you watch to DIVX central) and the fact that it was a closed, proprietary standard, owned by Circuit City and some legal firm. |

YEAH, er um, DOWN WITH THE MACHINE! What the hell is DVIX anyway? Is it some other brand of DVD? If so, you better not be that excited. I wouldnt want a single company to have a monopoly over such a major market. |
