So I was on these forums back in the threaded topic olden days (user name George Palmer) but I left when all the century clubs started.

I'm a regular Apolyton OTer now. So what do you guys see as the difference between the forums and why do you like one or the other better?

You have a choice:

A forum discussing real topics mixed with nonsense in a good blend, or a forum which can't take anything.

A forum filled with normal yet strange people, or one filled with the scum of the earth.

A completely free forum where anyone can post anything with HTML turned on, or one with an evil dictatorial moderator shuttling people off.

One run by the people who made the game and one by an amateur.

One free of ads, the other full of ads.

Chose the Non-SMAC Related forums! They kick ass!

well those century clubs blew the proverbial chunks. i liked the old days before the UBB forums. When the discusiions were about the upcoming SMAC game.

hey how come my thread just turned into two threads?

And the coding for showing which threads have new unvisited posts works better at apolyton.

You like a pioneer athmosphere? Not a settled-in static forum like this one?

I suggest the FIRAXIS forums at http://www.firaxis.com/cgi-bin/ubb/Ultimate.cgi . The CivIII section there is a must, as well as official.

Appolyton is very nicely laid out, but the posts are much better here. The forums aren't what they used to be though. AC (the game) has a lot of interesting ideas in it and those ideas fueled these forums for a long time. But eventually even the most potent fuel runs out. But even now the forums are still much better than most bulletin boards.

It just depends on what you go for, GP. I don't really think "Securities & Economics," for instance, would have legs at Apolyton (I have no way of knowing). I invite you to join the fun, if you are interested. The SMAC game forum on this site ebbs and flows. Sometimes it's a wasteland. I rarely post or visit it.

Apolyton has higher traffic. I just never got into the Apolyton Off-Topic. Nothing ever interested me when I stopped by. I have found plenty of nourishment, however, in Apolyton's game forums.

There is very little traffic in the Firaxis forums, but I post there anyway.

Apolyton off-topic generates much more topic. With a larger population, it draws in more extreme people (on both the left and right).

But Firaxis has it beat when it comes to actual topics on SMAC.

Hi GP!

I wasn't on the Firaxis pre UBB forums but I remember you from the "golden" SMAC days. We had a few good debates in there I think. I found Apolyton a bit unfriendly so after a brief visit I came back here. The Firaxis forums could use some more posters like you though if you are interested. The Apolyton Off Topic seemed more extreme than here with more of the people who won't discuss but want to force their point of view on others.

Hey Mikey!

I remember you and thought you were cool. although the clubs were a little dippy compared to the old BG vs eric Olsen threads. Can't beleive you would remember a lurker like me. i left AC becuase it was too crowded. Now i think i stay away becuase it is less crowded. Ironic, no?

I even remember a thread by you where I had to ask who Eric Olsen was.

I especially remember the name because, as the Brits out there will know, George Palmer was the name of a dodgy wheeler dealer carachter on Eastenders (probably Britain's biggest soap) one that you can't help but know what's going on in even if you don't watch it. Plus you always had something interesting to say when you did post.
