Ok, I've got enough money to get one game at the end of the month, and I would like some suggetions if you have the time. I was intending to get Total Annhiliation: Kingdoms, which looks like it rocks! (I really liked TA) But is there a better game out there? I like, in this order...Real-time/turn based stradagy Role playing Building sims (i.e. sim city) Adventure First person shooters Thanks for any replies! Datalink

OK, here are my suggestions: RTS/TBS = Starcraft, Alpha Centauri (duh - but not that crappy Call to Power game), Birth of the Federation RPG = Uh, I've heard Fallout and Baldur's Gate are good, also Ultima Online if you can get past the lag (translation = have at least a T3, preferably an OC/3) Building = Probably Caesar 3 Adventure = Anything by LucasArts or Sierra First person shooters = Delta Force or Rainbow 6 |

Strategy: Starcraft is very good. TA:K sounds like it should be interesting in some of the same ways.SMAC is good for TB, Birth of the Federation is good IF you're a Trek fan. Master of Orion II is still one of my favorites, though. I also like Heroes of Might & Magic III. RPG: Baldur's Gate rocks, and it's coming out on DVD instead of 5 CDs, if you have a DVD drive. Fallout 2 if very good, as is the original, for that matter. Might & Magic VII is just out, but I haven't got it yet. Sim: SimCity 3000? Not my area, really. Adventure: Grim Fandango is good. Again, not really my area. FPS: I loved Jedi Knight, but found Quake II a bit too repetitive. Of the recent ones, Half-Life seems the most interesting. |

Well, my area is adventure games so the best game you could pick up right now is Grim Fandango. Followed by Curse of Monkey Island. If you'd like a really really hard game I can recommend Black Dahlia. Others pretty old but still good games are, Day OF The Tentacle, Sam&Max hit the road, Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis etc etc...Then their are always those Space and Kings Quests series, games you can pick up really cheap.. I will mention those old text-based a-games.... First person shooters: System Shock A highly underrated game which is damn good. Thief isn't so bad either. If you don't have Halflife, buy it!! Real-time/turn based strategy: SMACK Ofcourse! Starcraft. Roleplaying: Not really my area. I hate all games based on D&D but Fallot1 was good the second one had a horrible plot. Building sims Railroad Tyccon. Ambro2000

Is there something about swedes that makes them like Point and Click Adventure Games? My fav genre too...I recommend a look at the bargain binns of your local software store. Here are the best adventure games (except those mentioned by Ambro): 1. Monkey Island/Monkey Island 2 double pack. This is the best combo money can buy. The jokes don't age. 2. Gabriel Knight 1. #2 was a crappy Interactive movie, #3 is a 3D action adventure piece of ****, but #1 is still one of the most playable, funny and intelligent adventures I've ever seen. Love it. Great Voices, especially The narrator. However, the best game money can buy is Micro Machines 2. Great level designer, and the best multiplayer this side of venus. |

Hugo/Ambro: How do you rate Simon the Sorcerer? It's one of the few adventure games I've played. I enjoyed it. |

STS was Ok, I suppose. The puzzles were not very intuitive, the humor was a bit crappy in places, and the "faux" english accents got really bad after a while. But it was funny, albeit a bit linear. You really need to play some of the great Lucasarts and Sierra Adventure Games, you know. Monkey Island is still the funniest game in existance, and one of the very best. Try it! You'll like it. P.S. Does anyone know what happened to Ron Gilbert? |

Hugo: You're right about the puzzles. Some of the solutions to the puzzles were strange to say the least. I still remember the music, though. It's looping in my head right now . |
