How do the copyright laws work in conjunction with the Net? If something is published on a web page, is it automatically copyrighted? If it's not, how can it be copyrighted? How do you know if material on the net is/is not copyrighted? |

I think you can copyright images by er... damn, I've forgotten. I'll get back to you on that one. I think if you go to GameSpot UK you will see that they have a "G" on their images, so preventing people from using them. John III |

By U.S. copyright laws, once it's published (doesn't matter the medium--the internet is included), it's copyrighted. Sound, pictures, javascript and artwork are all covered. I suspect that other countries are not much different. |

To clarify: you don't have to copyright (register) anything. Once it's created, it's copyrighted. You can register a copyright, but much of the time it is not needed. |

Oops, I mispoke. Once it's published, i.e., put on the website, it's copyrighted. |

Great. That's what I hoped for. I know it's like that for other media, but I wasn't sure that it also applied to the internet. Thanks. |

Who has the copyright, then? If I post something on this board, is it copyrighted? |

Well, Firaxis could argue that it owns the image you are about to post, since it is part of the sign-up agreement. So just put it on another server, then post it here. Legalistic, but an important step. If you're that concerned, just log the time at which you uploaded the image to your server. |
