I suffer from various kinds of anxiety. Social anxieties, like fear of talking to people (e.g. I don't use the phone unless I have to.), fear of crowds, fear of being alone, fear of being looked at, fear of being ignored... The list goes on. I also have a fear of falling and a fear of flying (at least I think I have, I don't tempt fate.). My worst fear right now is that those irrational fears are going to stop me from having a normal life, getting a job, having a family etc. |

Having my intestines wound around a stick in front of my living eyes. Or catching scabies. Or screw-worms. Or just about anything that eats it's way under your skin. Yuk.

Valtyr, I'm interested from an analytical perspective. Does posting on the board bring the same fear as face to face (voice to voice) interaction? If this is too personal, just forget I asked. If you mean what's the worst thing I fear, that would be a beetle attempting to crawl up my ass. If you mean what's the thing I fear most, that would be my computer fouling up. Hey, it's the most likely bad thing to happen. |

That WOULD suck. Living forever doesn't mean forever young. Imagine how crappy life would be if you actually lived to be 400(0000) years old. |

I read a good book, (The Trinity Vector, by Steve Perry), that had a funny quote in it."Fear is the first time you can't get it up twice. Terror is the second time you can't get it up once." -Anonymous (He writes a lot of stuff, doesn't he?) |

What things are more scarier than tortures? Imagine yourself being sliced by thousand cuts, being eaten alive by ants, or simply being crucified. Death itself is not scary, the way to die may be horrific. |

I have no real fear of ordinary physical torture (as distinctly opposed to psychological torture), just to point out my further weirdness. I've had some pretty painful things happen to me. I know it would be extremely unpleasant and I do not want it to ever, ever happen, but it doesn't precisely /scare/ me... and it'd be a pretty rational fear if it did.I have an irrational fear of death. I am not ready to find out what, if anything, comes next. Hopefully, this will not be an issue for many, many years. However, I have known a couple people who died in their early 20s. I have an irrational fear of having my breathing passages obstructed. Actually, I suppose it's rather rational, but what it takes to trigger a panic (not as bad as it used to be) is irrational. I am /not/ claustrophobic in the classic sense. Small, enclosed spaces are unlikely to bother me. But having my face covered with a blanket can. I have an irrational fear of going blind. I already have pretty bad vision. I have an irrational fear of being forced to listen "Achy Breaky Heart". Or the number of times I'm going to hear TAFKAP's "1999" this year. No, wait, those are rational fears. Eris (Look, real answers...) |

Here is one that is more plausible. Imagine being summoned for jury duty. You must wait (and wait) in one room all day. There is a television. For some bizarre reason it shows mostly episodes of the Rosie O'Donnell show. Due to the fact that some perspective jurors are hard of hearing, the volume is turned all the way up. For hours and hours and...Oh wait, this already happened to me. But what if it happens AGAIN?

Eris' response really resonated with me, because for years I seemed to have a perpetual cold - resulting in a blocked up nose. Because of this, whenever I saw someone being gagged in a play or film on television, I used to think: "What would happen to me if I was gagged? It would be terrifying to have to struggle to breath through a blocked nose ...".Numbers two and three: 2) Daddy Long-legs. (I can now copy with moths, and most spiders - except for the really big ones with long spindly legs.) 3) Heights. I recently visited the Cape in South Africa, and right at the tip of the Cape is a lighthouse on a peak. Climbing up to the platform around the lighthouse was OK, but moving to the wall (3'6" to 4' and built of stone) surrounding the paved area, and looking over the edge down the 600ft(?) cliff was scary. The worst thing about it was the wind! However, I love flying in aircraft - I'm more scared of trains. Noisy Macroweed to the Stars |

My fears? I have a slight bit of arachnophobia (I don't mind little spiders, it's the ones bigger than my hand that creep me out especially the one in that movie that had lungs big enough to *hiss*) and a fear of snakes. The idea of immortality doesn't scare me per se, but I do think I might get mind-bogglingly bored at some point if I were immortal. |

Wild snakes. I don't mind them as pets (kinda like 'em actually) or as an ornamental motif, but when i see them out slithering through the grass my legs just start backing me up the opposite direction. Even when it's a dinky little garter snake. |

I have two irrational fears.1) I hate insects. When I was a small child, my family was vacationing next to a pond in the woods. As I was wandering around out back, I stumbled into a nest of ground hornets. I think the combination of being in a strange place and having it take what seemed like hours to get rid of all of the crawling, stinging things caught in my clothes and hair warped me a little bit. 2) I have a fear of falling. Airplanes don't bother me, but exposed heights do. At one point I had a contact lens get caught under my eyelid...at the top of the staircase in the Statue of Liberty. For those of you who have never been, that staircase is very narrow, with a railing that is only about four feet high. It spirals around a pole in the center of the statue, and you can see (and fall) all the way to the base of the statue. Feeling my way down that staircase half-blind is not something I want to do again. |

1. Failure. Plain and simple. 2. Being told that everythig I've striven for, everything I've worked for, etc., is wrong and in vain, and it being right. 3. Poisoned by any method. 4. Dying with regrets. 5. Dying suddenly without a choice. 6. Abandonment by someone I'm close to. 7. Hmm....some of those can be grouped together. And, I can't really think of anything else. 8-9-10. Goodbye. |
